saxofunk
Tulsa finally has a Guitar Center. Fool that I am, I showed up at 6:30 last night for the 7:00PM grand opening. The weather was fair, and the location of my friends in the line encouraged my to hang out. There had to be at least 3000 people in line. I was among the first 1000 so I got a free t-shirt... If any of you need the address of the Tulsa GC, it's printed all over my new shirt! The GAS was on, but not so much. My goal this year is to get some quality amplification, so I went into this expecting to spend very little and managed to keep it to $25. Came out with 50 CD-Rs ($5) and Ed Friedland's Slap Bass DVD ($20 and well worth it). Sure, there were lots of "grand opening specials" but nothing was tempting enough to close the deal. Needless to say, among those 3000+ attendees were many adolescent drummers who only know one volume level, many guitar players who know that tone is directly related to volume, and many more bass players than should allowed in that little room. There was also a hired Elvis impersonator/announcer who neglected to draw my name for any of the prizes. I really want to A/B some bass cabs, but the traffic was just too much last night. There was also a bit disappointed because I saw no sign of outboard bass preamps - not even a BDDI. So, now we have a viable LowDown hangout. Next time ya'll come to visit we'll go to the playground. - Matt W.
getz out
Welcome to the Wal*Mart of musical supply. I believe it was MusicMan (MIA) who coined the term "Teenie-Fleas" regarding the slap-happy young lads that pack the bass room. Way to show restraint. Be calm and wise. Amplification is a worth goal. 73 P Bass
When GC opened in Connecticut, my brother-in-law went to the grand opening. He drove into the parking lot, saw the crowd, turned around and went home. I still haven't made it out there (it is a whole 15 minute drive and all). "Start listening to music!". -Jeremy C

Indeed it is! Thanks to an ambitious Methodist congregation, it is adjacent to mega church property. GC also shares parking lots with Tulsa's largest Christian bookstore, Mardel , who occupy 1/2 of the space that used to be Builders Square. The other 1/2 of the former Builders Square is occupied by Mardel's sister company Hobby Lobby. With a little parking lot jockeying you can also get to Lifeway Christian Bookstore - not so big, but ultra-visible. The nearest quik Trip is about a mile a away. In fact, Quik Trip hot dogs and taquitos were being enjoyed by many hungry GC shoppers as they waited in line. - Matt W.
Fred TBP
My guess is when "War of the Worlds" hits the big screen in July, all those Martian ships and walking machines will have the GC logo on them. ...and it would be nice if they stayed open a little later on gig nights when you need strings or cables... That should make for a fun day if they ever have a death metal group signing autographs on a Sunday. Free download of my cd!.

dcr
Well, it's official. Wichita is now the musical back of beyond. Hope you like your new GC! (I've got to make a quick trip to Tulsa soon; maybe I'll stop in.) And speaking of quick trips, those little taquitos actually do rock. As a former Tucsonan, I'm ashamed to say that, but there it is. Mr. Phil
a little OT, but a recent guitar center experience I had: me: "Can I take a look at all the potentiometers you guys have?" Sales Man: "What's a potentiometer?" me: "Pots? You know the things you turn?" SM: "Oh yea, Pots. We have those. ... Uhh, it looks like we only have 250 and 500K." me: "OK, I'll go somewhere else." and then i found $5 http://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/blue.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/black.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/fuscia.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/grey.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/orange.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/purple.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/red.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/yellow.JPG
