Bass_god_offspring
Long Story short: Bill Leigh (The Editor in Chief) called me and asked if i would like to be in a new section they are doing called "Introduce yourself" which puts the spotlight on begining Musicians. I have to answer some questions and then send a picture in of myself. so i am coming to the collective knowledge of the Lowdown to ask your opinion of my answers. call me obsessed but i really would like your opinions of my answers before i send them in, after all, i don't want to write something really offensive to bassits on accident. Name: (You'll have to buy the Magazine to get that) Hometown: Vacaville, California Years experience: 4 Description of your main gig or gigs: Small Clubs, Coffee houses, Parties. Main bass & rig: Ibanez ATK 300, Carvin R1000 Head, Carvin Red Eye 4x10 cab. Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, Cry Baby Bass Wah, DOD bass Flanger, MXR Phase 90, Digitech Bass Synth Wah, MXR Micro Amp, Planet Waves Cables. Day job: Full time High School Student Why did you start playing bass? I started Playing Bass because I wanted to be in a garage band with some of my good friends. There was already a guitarist, so one of my friends older brothers talked to me about what exactly a bass was; I then decided that it would fit me much better than any other instrument. Why do you play bass today? I have never learned how to read music, and have no real intention to do so. To me, bass is an instrument that you can really express yourself with, a type of paintbrush that you can use to create your own type of art. Music, or more specifically bass, is more about feel and expression than notes and time signatures. Light-bulb moment: A tie Between Learning My first song on bass (Dammit by Blink 182) and finally figuring out what Locking in with the drummer actually means. Hear my music at (cd, Web site, mp3): Any local clubs or send me an E-mail and I will send an Mp3. Talk to me online at (forums, usernames): Blackhawk40k14@yahoo.com, Bass_God_Offspring @ Lowdown Lowdown Bass Forum. ___ I really hope this doesn't sound like i'm bragging, becuase that is definitly not my intention, i simply would like some opinions on my answers. Thanks a whole bunch. p.s. Props to Tom Capasso for recommending me. -BGO 5 words you should live by... Tom Capasso
Bill called me, gave me some criteria for March, and asked for some suggestions. I gave him some. Starting in March, they are trying to revamp the mag a bit. At BP Live, this was mentioned, but the closest hint about what this meant was that they wanted to get the readership and forums involved a bit. Working Stiffs isn't going away - this is an added feature. The choice of people will be up to the editorial staff, and I got the impression that they are going to try to do as many diverse players as possible. I look forward to (what we'll now refer to as) "Mylan March". Matt W - thanks for the Dr. Hook reference. Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals. ihategarybettman
My only suggestion would be to add the words "anytime in the near future" at the end of "I have never learned how to read music, and have no real intention to do so." If you proclaim that you won't ever learn to read music, certain purists and music snobs might jump all over you.

The Fonz
great answers all, you gotta dig honesty. i have to agree that you may catch some flack in the letters to the editor about not wanting to learn how to read, but then that lends to your honesty (i can never remember how either. original bands will do that to ya).
