Tenstrum
I haven't tried the marshall, but so far, I've been happy with me Boss. Tenstrum "Paranoid? Probably. lug
Also consider the Ibanez PD-7 if you haven't already. Not perfect, but a great bang for the buck. If you want perfect, Fultone Bassdrive. http://www.bassemporium.com/images_products/bassdrive.jpg You can stop now -jeremyc STOP QUOTING EVERY THING I SAY!!! -Bass_god_offspring lug, you should add that statement to you signature.-Tenstrum I'm not sure any argument can top lug's. - Sweet Willie
doc taz
I've read from Harmony Central\'s user reviews that the newer Guvnor GV-2 has lots of bass response, so that may work for us bass players. I haven't tried one, though. As for the odb? Good unit, but I don't really need it much, as I use either a Boss hyper METAL, or Metal Zone pedal. They have plenty of solid low end on tap, so that's good enough for me. If I ever get something that works like the odb, it might be the MXR M80 . Expensive, but a very good pedal and preamp unit in one. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page

Moorso
If it's a thick bass fuzz style distortion you're after you should also consider the ZVEX Whoolly Mammoth - Chris (from Muse) has one custom built into his bass. lug
Sound sample of the Ibanez PD7 http://users3.ev1.net/~woodd/phatpan.mp3 order: clean (ric) -> PD7 OD at full drive -> PD7 Distortion at Full drive -> Pandora's fuzz (for reference) Kinda more of a meatgrinder rather than a buzzy bee sound. These are at max drive so you can back off but not add any more distortion. The seperate bass and treble controls are nice, and it makes a nice little clean boost pedal too. The "attack" switch is just a highpass filter as far as I can tell. http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/15/150234.jpg You can stop now -jeremyc STOP QUOTING EVERY THING I SAY!!! -Bass_god_offspring lug, you should add that statement to you signature.-Tenstrum I'm not sure any argument can top lug's. - Sweet Willie
Rick Hoffman
I got a BigMuff and an ODB-3. I like them both but the BigMuff has a slightly better sound and more sustainnnnnn baby. I actually get feedback outta my bass when I turn it on "The world will still be turning when you've gone." - Black Sabbath Band site: www.finespunmusic.com
Cthulhu Fhtagn
I guess the crux is how much distortion does a bass need? I like a little fuzz and distain and maybe some harmonic is nice for some the moldy/oldies (Cream, et. al.). How much is too much?
