...
I was hipped to this cat by a friend in Las Vegas. According to Mike Jones , Ray Brown was "the greatest URB player". Now Niels Henning Orsted Petersen holds that title. I'm going to be buying some CD's to check him out for myself. I was curious if any of you other jazz kids out there have heard this guy play. Oh yes, and if you're into solo jazz piano, Jonesy is absolutely terrifying.
g.
I've heard him on various dates reaching back maybe into the sixties. I wasn't aware he'd slugged it out with Eddie Gomez, Charlie Haden, David Holland, or a few other cats. But I knew he was in their weight class. . b-bass
Check out any of his many recordings with Oscar Peterson. They are all pretty scary. www.ashburykeys.com
LizzyD
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. Just correcting the spelling, in case anyone does any searching! I can't tell you how many different versions of his name I've seen in my line of work. My site | Facebook

Wally Malone
Love the Chops recording with Joe Pass as well. I heard a cut on the radio one day of Roy Eldrige live at Montreaux and NHOP was the bass player. In fact I was so intrigued by the bass on that recording that I came home and called the radio station to find out what recording it came from. The tune they were playing was Bye Bye Blackbird. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!
abaguer
There's also a great trio date with NHOP, Birelli Lagrene and Andre Ceccurelli? called Standards. Has NHOP doubling Birelli's heads on Donna Lee among other things. Great record.
Tedster
Loved the stuff with Joe Pass as well as with Oscar Peterson. Didn't they all do one together called "Northsea Nights"?...recorded live in someplace like Stockholm? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
