Tom Capasso
Alex, to seriously answer your question (which may also be useful to newer folks around here), it starts with the SSS forum. Those folks are a pretty nutty group, and sometimes they change up avatars and names. A few years back I joined the fray for Halloween (when I was spending time on SSS). When I saw Tedster's Halloween alterations, it reminded me that it's the time of year for costumes and alternate identities. Not wanting to pick any of the more "standard monsters", and wanting an image that sorta fits me, I chose Dr Zarkov from the old Flash Gordon 30s serials. And it seems that many of our bassic friends have joined in. Many retained some part of their name for identification purposes (Dennyf became Demonf, etc.). I chose not to do that, but I figure my posts (and the Teddy Roosevelt quote in the sig) make my identity pretty obvious. When you see my jokes, you know it's me (though Wraub and others have "stepped on my territory", I like to think I still stand out). And of course, while we're all putting on "masks", greenboy names himself back to usual. Such a pot-stirrer, that greenboy. I'm always impressed with zeronyne's avatars, because I have no visual art skill whatsoever (that Plan 9 poster is perfect !!). Tedster also - the Cat With The Strat was great. Is there a book like that (written in Seuss-ese)? If not, we should write one. I'm always happy to give advice on most subjects. For today, I'll just say "buy the red bass". Jeremy will be along any minute to say "blue", followed by Taz to say "green" (reminds me of the three women in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, who keep changing the color of the dress). Tedster
Just to clarify, it's that time of year when we all put on our Halloween costumes (avatars). "Social Critic of the Black Lagoon"...damn, I nearly laughed myself off the chair . wraub
Dr.Zarkovvo- Not intending to step on your toes. I think of it as more of a tribute to the joy that is you, an homage to... Ah hell, I really just like puns. Cheap fun for all. Besides, somedody has to help out when you're not around, right? Kinda like I'm the first runner up in the ongoing Miss Lowdown pageant. Tom Capasso
No sweat Wraub - always glad to see bad puns from other folks. I get tired of being the only one being shot at. The family was at a party last week, and my father was sitting across the table from my kids (who aren't kids). Pop came out with a bad one, I was laughing. The kids were saying "so he does get it from his father" and "grandpa had the same stupid grin on his face before he said it just like dad" and so on. Just shows how true artists are rarely appreciated.... Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals.
