What, no "Basket Case"?

Watching "Psycho" is like shopping at Saks. Watching "Basket Case" is like shopping at roadside gas station on a desert reservation. And brother, that's where the real horror is! :D

(PS That said, "Psycho" definitely is on my short list of best-evers. There, I bit you.)

Wow Basket Case, I forgot about that one.

These remind me of the old days (ouch the 80's are the old days?), of when I used to rent about 6 VHS's a week. Now I can't seem to find anything at the video store I really want to see. It probably doesn't help that my local Blockbuster has 3 year old movies in the "New Realease" section, and no "Full Release" section.

I always leaned towards comedy anyway. "Sound of Mucus", now that's scary. I guess on the music front it would be that and a "Live Poison Concert". Aaaaaaaaaahhh!

If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing!

Ditto on "Basket Case". I think I have the sequel as well. That was when the two, ah, (what would you call them?)... "embryonically challenged beings" got together in that crib in the attic... what a combination of horror, love and comedy THAT was!

:evil::love::D

If you don't know what I'm talking about, go find and view them... at your own risk. VERY politically incorrect and somewhat entertaining.

How could "Return of The Living Dead" been missed? 80's camp at it's finest.

Bill Paxton as a blood sucking vampire, anyone?

Near Dark......released on DVD about a year ago.

Good movie, but not the one I'm thinking of. In the movie I'm referencing, you never see the killer. In fact, the creepiest part of the movie is the very end. (EDIT - Deleted so as not to give away the ending to anyone who wants to see the movie for themselves. It's a good 'un. Go rent it!)

I know it was a Canadian production. Wish I could remember the title!

EDIT! I poked around on the net and found it! The movie is called BLACK CHRISTMAS ! If you like stalker movies, this is a great one!

Just came across a still from a horror movie currently in production. Mt. St. Helens has been abducted and forced to play an extra in a new Japanese monster film:

I favor the 70's & 80's old school horror when I think horror flicks peaked.

Night of the Living Dead

Hellraiser - parts 1 through 3 (Pinhead Rules!)

A Nightmare on Elmstreet - first three editions

Friday the 13th series

American Werewolf in London

Exorcist parts 1 and 3

Newer stuff -

Stir of Echoes (not a horror, but the only movie that's ever made the hair stand up on my arms/neck when I knew something was about to happen)

Resident Evil

I want to see the newest Exorcist installment too.

I'm sorry Jusinruins, but I watched 28 Days Later, and felt 100% dumber :freak:for having watched it all the way through; hoping it'd get better. It started out OK, but went straight down hill from there.

You mean "Return of the Night of the Living Dead" or something like that? Where the guy opens a container with a zombie body from the night "The Night of the Living Dead" took place?

I'm sorry, but that movie SUCKED! I saw the "Dawn of the Dead" (errr the one with the scientists and military holed up at a base), and I thought it was phenominal (sp?). Real turn around, imo, from "NotLD." Great movies.

Best horror movie of all time:

Toss up between Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Both brilliant. I met Bruce "The Almighty" Campbell once. He has The Ultimate Chin. That guy rules. I really hope Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash actually happens, because that will rule like none other.

I neglected to mention that I worked at a video store for three years back when I was in college... during that period, I saw SO many bad horror flicks that I must be subconciously blocking them out of my memory...

But they're coming back to me now...

Like:

The Toxic Avenger SO, so bad. And yet, you have to watch it. Plus, you have to respect that Kaufman made the film with about a $5 budget and wound up building an empire from it.

Killer Kondom The rubber that rubs you out!

Killer Klowns From Outer Space Delivers EXACTLY what it promises.

Vampire Vixens From Venus Really, really stupid... but kind of fun, too.

They Live Aliens wear human disguises and take over the world. With Rowdy Roddy Piper. YOW!

Ginger Snaps (I, II, III) Gothy, angsty teenage chicks turn into werewolves.

Frankenhooker A prostitute made from dead hooker parts... who likes to kill her clients.

I Spit On Your Grave Female vengeance flick that gave guys nightmares.... cover your junk!

Then I also saw a lot of pretty decent stuff, too.

Recently I've been on an Asian flick kick, so I saw:

Ichi The Killer About a Japanese hitman with a real thing for pain. Really gross, but kind of fun, too.

301/302 Two women living across the hallway from each other have some pretty messed up problems with food.

Suicide Club Japanese students start a suicide trend. Hijinx ensue.

Wild Zero A Japanese zombie movie featuring: the WORST zombies in history, transexuals, weird rock club owners, aliens... and the greatest Japanese trash rock band EVER - Guitar Wolf.

Then I went old-school....

White Zombie With Bela Lugosi's scary eyebrows.

Etc, etc, I could go on and on...

BTW, I saw the Tetsuo sequel, too. Japanese stories are SO messed up.

That reminds me of a vampire porn flick I once saw years ago that starred Vanessa Del Rio as a Shakespearean actress with a thick Puerto Rican accent. In the scene when she encountered the vampire, she shouts, "F*** me for Chakespeare!" It's funny, what sticks in your mind.

For me, the best horror movies are the ones that begin like "wonderful day in lala land"...then progress to "something might be wrong"..."something's definitely wrong and we're all gonna die"...etc.

"The Birds" to me was one of the ultimate movies that fit that bill...the foreshadowing was excellent.

The line blurs between "horror" and "sci-fi" sometimes...but, my faves include:

The Birds

Them (someone already mentioned it). I think a remake with some better quality giant ants. Or, perhaps a swarm of little ants.

Alien

Salem's Lot

Actually, "Signs" was pretty good in spots. The first time you see that alien run across the screen, it's pretty weird. That, and the scene where it's standing on the roof in darkness, watching, and you know it's there.

Not big on bloody slasher movies myself, or zombie movies. Too predictable.

Actually, the last horror movie I saw was "Bubba Ho-Tep," starring B.C. as Elvis. Oddly, more poigniant than scary, but I dug it!

For little ants at their, uh...slowest and most anty, check out a gem called PhaseIV, early 70s IIRC. Interesting, overlooked film.

There was actually a rather scary "non-horror" film that fit the bill of the small ants. It was an early 60s film with Charlton Heston as a plantation owner in South America, whose plantation gets run over by army ants...billions and billions of 'em. Ants don't have to be 9 feet long to do tons of damage...and, if a "Them" story did actually happen, there'd have been millions of 9 foot ants. (Bugs Bunny voice): "It'd be koytins for us all, I tell ya, koytins" (curtains).

Add my vote here. Again, not especially scary, but had a couple of moments. I liked it, Campbell as the older Elvis, and Ossie Davis as JFK were great picks.

Very entertaining, well done.

IIRC the director was Don Coscarelli, the guy who did Phantasm.

edit: A quick check of the 'net confirms Coscarelli not only directed both of the above, but Beastmaster as well.

A shining star in the cinema firmament.

the scariest movie that I have seen so far was not even supposed to be a horror movie.

Requiem For A Dream.

Very disturbing.

I used to play in a band with the guy who composed the music for Basket Case - Gus Russo. He is now a n investigative journalist - having written Kennedy Conspiracy Theory books such as "Live By The Sword"

How about "Silence of the Lambs"

Diggin' the new avatar bump, ATHF, great. Where did you hear of this freddy vs. jason. vs. ash thing? That sounds like it could be the greatest movie ever. Probably wouldn't happen though because the evil dead series is too cult for another major movie.
