New Megadeth Review - Metalheads where are you

Heavy Metal is still here.

Just picked up the new album. Great, fantastic album. I loved the riffs and harmonies. Mustaine delivered this one perfectly. Heard the different band members for the first time. Loved the bass and drums. Guitars were awesome.

This sounded like vintage Megadeth. It almost sounds like this recording should have come out sooner, like its the missing link or something.

Great work, Dave and Co.

I haven't bought a Megadeth album since Youthanasia because, in my opinion, that album was weak. I'm listening to it again right now to see if I missed something. Nope, still sounds weak to me. It's like this was Dave's answer to Metallica's Black Album and no sir, I don't like it.

I listened to the sound clips on Amazon.com and the two songs that sound like they have potential from this new one are "Blackmail the Universe" and "Kick the Chair".

I felt Megadeth's best album was Rust in Peace, and even that wasn't without it's shortcomings. Peace Sells is also right up there with their best offering. Megadeth was just never able to put together a solid album from start to finish like some of their other metal counterparts of the time were able to.

HEY!!!!! I wasn't aware of this at all! I'd love to hear it. Vinnie Colaiuta on a Megadeth record? Is that a joke? Don't get me wrong,If hes on it,I'm sure he's brilliant. Its just odd. I just bought a live DVD yesterday from 2002. Rude Awakening. It's mindblowing. Too bad about Dave Ellefson though. He is my favorite metal bassist. I'm sure the new guy is great, though. I know you have to have yer game together with Mustaine.

I agree about Rust In Peace, though. Well,it ties with Peace Sells. Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland were great. Poland is a sick, sick player.

IMO, I dont like the overall sound of Megadeth. From what I've heard (radio and TV) they are very high pitched. Like they have no punch.

Almost like they are too 80s.

That's just me though.

You know,I agree in a way. Their recordings don't have alot of lowend. Not alot of "airiness". Everything is very condensed. Also, most of it is in standard tuning. I still think they are great, though. Its part of their sound,I guess.

I went out and bought it yesterday. I'm not too crazy about it. It's just not Megadeth. The playing is fantastic and Vinnie does it,for sure, but the songs are weak IMO. The production is too slick and sort of murky. Some things sound good slick to me,somethings don't. I think its great, though that Coliauta just up and did a metal record. That kind of versatility is just proof that he's one of the greatest. You gotta love that.

To my delight, though I found that all of the older records have been remixed and remastered. I bought Rust in Peace. I forgot how amazing that album is. It really does sound good, and the bass is very present in the mix.

Too bad. I wanted this album to be good.

Perhaps I will need to check a few of those out. Peace Sells.. and Rust in Peace for sure. Upon another listen yesterday, Peace Sells... would have been their best album had they not decided to put that horrible version of "I Ain't Superstitious" on it. Every other track on that album just kills. "Dawn Patrol" and "Hanger 18" are the two big suck-ass songs from Rust in Peace, I could also take or leave "Poison Was The Cure". "Hanger 18" features the same opening chord sequence as Metallica's "Call of Ktulu", for those keeping score at home.

I like Hangar 18. I like the "ZZ top on crank" groove at the end of the song. Its almost kind of funky. Thats one thing that I always liked about them. The cool synchopation, and the fact that it still grooves hard even though its played fast and with such aggresion. The other speed metal bands didn't really have as much of that. They made that other M band look like a bunch of hacks IMO. There isn't as much of that on the new one. Its alot of the fast 16th note on drop d with double kick type of stuff that has been so overdone.

You never know. You might like the new one. I'm kind of picky about wierd stuff with some bands and its just my opinion. I still think Dave Mustaine is great and all,I just really haven't liked an album alot since Rust.
