44 hurts
This just out: Simmons May Appear on 'Queer Eye' NEW YORK - How would the guys from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" make over the black and white makeup of Kiss? We may get to find out. Gene Simmons, the tongue-wagging bassist of Kiss, is considering an appearance on the Bravo reality show. On his web site, Simmons says that producers for the show have asked him join the Fab Five for an episode. "They called me and asked me if I would do it. I'm a fan of the show. We may shoot on the 28 of September," Simmons says. Bravo did not immediately return calls seeking a comment. "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is in its second season, airing on Bravo at 10 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesdays. Don't look back. TuckLM
Metro Gene? Well if the Guccis fit... I always thought Gene was a closet regular guy. I mean really, did you ever think he might be compensating? "No spitting fire on the couture, Gene!" --Carson L Tucker Nice, nice, very nice. So many people in the same device. Cthulhu Fhtagn
Dan, if you define my masuclinity being threatened as the same as do I hate bad TV, then the answer is yes. Queer Eyes (IMHO) is in the same genre as those damnedable home makeover shows (i.e. While You Were Out, Trading Spaces) and the "fashion emergency" show. You could put Gene Simmons on with Bill O'Rielly, or Chris Matthews, Dennis Miller (oh, that's right, he WAS on Dennis Miller) and it would elicit the same response. You can take a turd, paint it, polish it and put it on a dias and it is still a turd. You can take a bum, wash him, shave him, give him a manicure and a Gucci suit and he is still a bum. And you can wash, shave, manicure, and Gucci Gene Simmons and he would still be Gene Simmons. (Is Gucci a verb?) The Fonz
my only problem with QE is the way they grind out the word "couture." otherwise the show is pretty slick. i'm personally waiting for john waters guest spot to watch them all bow and scrape ala waynes world. how in the hell would they handle gene simmons? Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.
Dan South
Queer Eye ROCKS!!! It's one of the few shows worth watching. They bought this one dude a HUGE flat-screen TV. Whoa! They must have some kind of budget on that show! When the guys are done, the person looks better and their place looks GREAT. The wives/girlfriends are always impressed! Contast QE with that hideous Trading Spaces show where hacks destroy your house while you're away. I'm surprised that TS hasn't had some on-screen shootings. The Black Knight always triumphs! Rick Hoffman
Queer eye is a funny show, having Gene on there is gonna be hilarious. Imagine if he bit someone's head off or somethin. Publicists and promoters make money doing this for a living. Another basic rule is that if you want to get popular opinion on a potential deal ("rumor is that Tom Cruise will play Tony Stark on the upcoming Iron Man movie") then circulate the rumor through non-pay sources, say web forums and e-mails to the media. Potential "win-win" for both parties in this deal: Bravo gets a ratings boost for this QE broadcast, handy if it is broadcast on one of the Nielsen months (Nov., Feb., May or Aug.) and Gene gets a subscription boost for his "Tongue" magazine (not sure how that's doing lately) as well as more interviews in the media to promote his upcoming projects. (waiting on the Gene Simmons makeup line by YSL to make its debut) Potential win for the promoter: even at retainer rates, it's a no-brainer/billable service and the client will appreciate it. Even if it backfires, the client appreciates that you'll be taking the hit and you can always "fall on the knife" (also billable) for your client if called on to do so. Oh yeah, my opinion? Good idea, it might raise the level of comedy programming on TV. Oh yeah, right, QE is a "straight" show. My bad. End of lecture. (sorry if it was a little John Houston-ish, I just wanted to get this out) Guess what career I'm considering when I retire in 2008?

Fred TBP
Sorry, I meant John Houseman ("The Paper Chase") not John Houston, whoever he is. And I agree that Ozzy would be way funnier (and better for the ratings) on QE than Gene would be. "I want my, I want my, I want my gay-T-V." getz out
Queer Eye is good. I'll agree with Dan-O, they do what they set out to do. Trading Spaces is a disaster 95% of the time. Monster House isn't bad if you don't really care about your house. Those guys actually have imagination. While You Were Out... did anybody see the one on Long Island, where the guy went to a football day-camp and came back surprised at what happened to his deck? The guy totally ripped into his wife... brutal. Yeah, I dig home-makeover shows and I'm not afraid to admit it.
