Philip OKeefe
What are you using to connect to the Internet? Just thought it would be interesting to see how the various people around here access everything. I've been poking along on a second phone line and a 56K modem for WAY too long... was paying about$50 for that service. Had a cable modem put in on Friday, costs about the same per month, but WHOAH, what a difference in speed.... no more dialup delays, no getting kicked off line because I went to help my wife with something and left the connection idle for a few seconds too long, pages load nearly instantly, I can D/L music ya'all post in minutes instead of the unreal time it took with a dialup... etc. etc. etc. If you're using a dial up, do not hesitate: Get DSL or a cable modem asap. HUGE difference!

sbrock1san.rr.com
I've always had a cable-modem because my neighborhood was one of the first in the nation to be wired for it. I spend my mornings trading stocks from home and speed is important to me. I cringe everytime I see my combined internet/cable TV bill...I pay $89.50 every month to Time Warner(Roadrunner) and I have no premium movie channels. For that price they should throw a brother at least an HBO or Showtime.
aeon
cable modem since February 1997... back in the old days my cost was zero because I would use a router and resell access to my neighbors in the 3-flat I used to live in... :D Go tell someone you love that you love them. Zweite Version
I just got a cable modem three weeks ago, and I absolutely LOVE IT! The only bad thing is that I hooked it on my PC via USB, instead of the suggested ethernet connection. How do you guys have the modem connected, USB or ethernet? Is it worth getting an ethernet card. They are really cheap but I'm dreaded by the thought of the installation. By the way, what is that T3 thing that people talk about, is it a glassfiber connection like they have in universities? sunsetman "Ya gots to work with what you gots to work with". - Stevie Wonder
Matt.Hepworth
Sadly there is neither broadband available where I live, nor at my studio. Notice that my post count is so much lower than The Wewus' (well, that, and the fact that I don't post if I don't have anything applicable to post about). ;) No matter how good something is, there will always be someone blasting away on a forum somewhere about how much they hate it. progfusion74
My exposure to the internet (about 1994) was on an ethernet network. Used a modem for the first time in 1997, for about 5 minutes, and except when I am traveling never used a 56K modem again. Super 8
Since I got my first taste of a T1 line where I worked, I knew there was no turning back. Got the cable installed almost a year ago, and have been very happy. What is so cool about it, is how seemlessly my computer integrates with the internet now. Checking email is automatic, if I need some kind of information, it's as fast as if I were accessing it from my hard drive (almost). I COULD NOT imagine going back to dial up service. I'd rather give up the internet all together than do that. And I use the internet a lot! Super 8 Hear my stuff here

philbo_Tangent
From home, it's good ol' 56K dialup. When at work, it's a T3. (Not as impressive as it sounds... only during lunch is use of the net OK'd, so EVERYBODY is on it at once, clogging it up pretty good...) Felix_dup1
Still haven't convinced the wife that we should incur the extra expense of Cable or DSL at home, so here's the scenario: There's no phone jack by the computer desk, so we unravel a 50 ft. phone cord, string it across the floor, and plug it into the jack in the kitchen. We even wrap it around a kitchen cabinet handle so that a kid doesn't trip on the cord and pull it out (plus the cats have a tendency to want to play with the cord too). 56k. AOL. Pretty close to a living Hell. Fortunately, my wife and I both have T1 connections at work. With any luck, someday we'll have a high-speed connection at home. Wewus432
AOL BroadBand Baby. Total bill is $44.95 a month. What are you guys paying for broadband? It works good most of the time but a few times lately I've had to Shut Down, slam the modem against the wall and re-boot. I also have a fiber-optic jack in the back of my neck. Wewus432
What's wrong with AOL? Got a free modem, free month of service, free setup and installation, customer service has been good, blah, blah, blah. RABid
DSL at home. Dial up at work.
