Mixerman - The Book

Scoot

Recommended Posts

Not sure how long it's been out, but I was googling around looking for closure on the mixerman story and found this. Supposedly the blog was only 2/3 of the story.

Somebody buy this and let me know if it's worth the $20. ;)

Ah, nice marmot.

I got mine today. I've already read 180 pages of it. Haven't got to the bit where they flew to NY and the online version ended yet. I imagine that's coming in the next 100 pages or so.

So far, the added content has been explaining some musical/studio terms that a non-musician type would have no clue about. It's still as funny this time as it was the first time I read it.

Brilliant.

OK, so I'm ready to admit that I'm only slighty obsessive/compulsive.

I passed on the opportunity to play Rock Star tonight to read this book. The keyboard/rhythm guitar player in Late September Dogs called me tonight to let me know that we were on the guest list at a Major Seattle Club and that everyone was heading down there to see some bands. This usually means big party, lots of schmoozing with peoples that I could otherwise give a f%$k about, and whatever. It's fun to play Rock Star, but this stupid book had me glued to my couch. I was absolutely dying to know what the hell happened to this POS band and what all transpired after the web journal ended. So, I sat at home with some beer and my Mixerman book and read. I'm such a nerdy geek at heart.

I read the entire thing in the resulting ~7 hours from discovering it in my mailbox this afternoon. All 389 pages of actual diary and not the 8 pages of glossary of terms that I already knew. Someone else read this f%^k so I can discuss it with you. To lend to details here would be ludicrous and a completely huge way to cheat you out of a great read. Buy the damn book and read it. I'll gladly send my copy to anyone on the forum for free after a few of my friends read it. The only stipulation is that you need to, in turn, send it to someone else for free. So there.

I have to admit that after reading this thing again, I'm just reminded of the painful truths of the state of the music business. Part of me wants to laugh and the other part of me wants to weep like a little girl who had her much-loved kitty cat viciously slaughtered in front of her. It's not like anything in this is a surprise to me. Hell, I've been on the treadmill long enough to know what happens and what makes the stupid music industry tick. It's just sad that I know this only having really been doing this stuff for about 9 years (actually playing/gigging/recording/dealing with labels). It makes me happy knowing that there are members of this very forum who have been doing this stuff for 3 times that amount of time (or more) and are still doing it today. That thought gives me a certain amount of hope and that thought keeps me warm at night.

edit to appease S-Dub, my spell and fact checker ;)

Nuthin' to be ashamed of... really...

Braggadocio from Bumpcity:

Look who's a tough guy!

The beers would've put me to sleep before I reached the end. Then again, I'm gettin' up there -- almost 35 -- and you're still a young buck who's barely over the 30 line... ;)

However, I'll guess that you at least had to take bathroom breaks.

Bumpcity's abundant generosity again rears its head:

 Paying it forward! I'm familiar w/ the concept. How many of your friends will paw the pages before you can send it off? I'll be better off borrowing Loy's copy once I move east.

Good lord, man! That'd be a good frickin' cry, now, wouldn't it?!?!

Thanks for the update. I read the on-line stuff, laughing quite hard all the way, having found it ridiculously addictive. I could understand how you'd be gripped so hard as to read it through from start to finish in one evening/night.

Yes or no question: Do we get to find out how it ends for Bitch Slap? That is, we're not left hanging in NYC as we were w/ the on-line version, are we?

Peace.

You're not left hanging, like the end of the online diary.

...and looking back on it, I'm rather proud of the little girl/kitty analogy that I pulled out of my hu-ha last night. ;)

Yup. You should be proud. :thu:

But go back and correct the typo on "vicously" -- it could confuse the common person who might think you meant "viscously" rather than "viciously". Not that the viscosity of a slaughtered kitty isn't relevant here, though...

Perhaps you meant "viscously"?

I followed the chronicles as often as possible, radibly at times. As my recent oral surgery has taken a big bite from my GAS fund, I would definitely pay the book forward Bump, if a loan was possible. I guess Will has dibs on Ben's copy.

If not, I'll pick it up someday...

Peace,

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

You're officially first on The List. PM me your mailing address and I'll send it to you when my two buddies are done reading it; I'm guessing a week.

Mixerman must have trimmed his online diary. I read it earlier this week (being totally clueless previously). there was no trip to NYC for bitch slap. it stopped right after Willie handed Lance the bass & told him to learn/play the song and they went out for sushi to find Lance had done that and recorded it when they returned.

On a side note, in his forums is Bitch Slap part 2. yea, they are back in the studio and mixerman is once again involved :)
