Chip McDonald Posted July 1, 2002 Posted July 1, 2002 Actually, I was just thinking that after he apparently quickly took "themusic" to the task with a "listen to my music" spam at the top of the posts tonight. I still think a good idea would be that Craig should start branding himself in the vein of the Peter Norton computer books, in a line of musician oriented help books that have a slightly different tact than what you normally see on the shelves... as in "The Anderton Guide to (etc.)"... DC Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 Craig, all I'd like to say is that everything I've ever read that you've written has come off like a good friend telling me how something works. Somehow you are just never boring in your articles and books and that is the most important aspect of writing to me. Then I discovered these forums and it turns out you've got a great heart and soul as well. All I can say is thanks! Thanks for teaching me so much over the years and making it fun to learn. -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
Anderton Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 <> I can just see it now...the Martha Stewart of the music biz! Seriously, I sorta do that now, but just with my name. Like my publisher changed the name of "Home Recording for Musicians" to "Craig Anderton's Home Recording for Musicians," and my new sample CD is called "Craig Anderton's Technoid Guitars." Thanks for the comment though, it's nice to think people are looking out for me : ) Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton
Wrave Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 I picked up a copy of "MIDI for Professionals" last weekend and guess who is the first one in the list of acknowledgements? Craig Anderton, for writing one of the earliest books on midi. Now, just how old are you Mr. Anderton, sir? :D =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ME: "Nobody knows the troubles I've seen!" Anderton Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 <> Well, my first article was on a steam-powered guitar amp. Electricity had not been invented yet. <> OOOPS!!! I forget to update it with a new song!! I better send it to the webmaster dude asap. Let's see, maybe I'll upload "Javanese Remake," a cover version I did of a Serge Gainsbourg tune...or maybe "Dogs," the tune that was a very minor hit in some outlying regions of Hungary (amazingly, I'm not kidding about that)....weird hardcore dance hip-hop stuff. Or maybe "Look Ahead," people either love it or hate it. Yeah, that's the ticket. Thanks for the reminder. KenElevenShadows Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 I actually know how old Craig is, but I don't think he wants everyone else here to know that he's 29. I've been posting on SSS since -- hmmmm, I don't know, actually. It was either late 1994 or early 1995, I believe, with my Micron 120 MHz and 28.8 modem and using AOL (Almost OnLine) to peer at the internet. Seriously, I sorta do that now, but just with my name. [/QB]
Actually, that is a FANTASTIC idea. Craig really kind of IS the Martha Stewart of the music biz. That really isn't much of a stretch when you think about it. The only person I can think of that would have as much review or instructional clout with me, would be Jim Aiken at Keyboard. He is great at explaining things, and he's been around long enough to have the perspective one can only have if -er- they've been around long enough. The difference is that Craig, I think, can cover more bases that Jim Aiken. Anyway, I just read that bit about Martha, and had to chime in. Cool thread. Craig handles the 'brown-nosing' with a healthy dose of humility. Always a good sign -considering many lesser individuals have MUCH bigger egos... Super 8 Hear my stuff here

I have a bunch of Norton books around somewhere, and I remember Norton on the cover of all of them because of the consistent "image" he projected, which was a good marketing tool because the familiarity of the face becomes a trademark of sorts. It would be self-aggrandizing, but I would think that at your "level of operations" that sort of thing is sort of considered "professional procedure"... I just think it'd be "worthwhile" to have a "regular" image and consistent moniker like "The Anderton Guide to...".
