57pbass
Just got in from another great night of music. I saw the New York Philharmonic Concert in Cunningham Park in Queens. Its a free concert. Brought out a blanket - a few beach chairs and a few cold ones.... They performed songs from Ives, Barber and John Adams... (I copied that from the program) The concert lasted about 2 hours. We sat about 100 yards away from the stage. From what I could see through my binoculars - it looked like there where 8 bass players and approximately 60 other musicians playing a variety of stringed instruments. The musicians where all races, all ages and needless to say very very good players. If you get a chance to see a large orchestra check it out ....its very powerful. NY Lowdowners ....check their site which is www.newyorkphilharmonic.org There are a few more shows left in the series in the area..... www.danielprine.com
davebrownbass
Of course, I play in a symphony orchestra...but it's not the same as the NY Phil. That's one of the most amazing orchestras in the world. Lessee, an outdoor program in July. I'll bet you heard: Adams: Short Ride in a Fast Car Ives: Unanswered Question Barber: Adagio for Strings Just guessing, but they generally play "greatest hits" in outdoor concerts. Still spendin' that political capital far faster than I can earn it...stretched way out on a limb here and looking for a better interest rate.
