Dear Mr. Sadowsky:

I did not receive either of those two instruments on my birthday. For a quick minute I fooled myself into thinking that maybe the UPS delivery man got lost, but finally forced myself to have a long and serious drink from the cup of reality: other eager bassists must have already purchased the two instruments in question, preventing you from sending them to me gratis. :( Although I'm disappointed, please know that I understand. :)

Next year I'll try to give you advance notice, and maybe the same tragedy can be avoided. Of course, I might also need to post a letter to your esteemed colleague on the left coast, Mr. Lull, to improve my odds. ;) Perhaps Mr. Timpe and Mr. Cohen will put in a good word for me at his shop just as Mr. Brinkley did at yours.

I did receive two very nice shirts from my family, and my children gave me Weather Report's Heavy Weather and Living Colour's Vivid on CD. :thu:

If you did manage to send Matt W matching fretted and fretless Sadowskys for his 9th anniversary, I will have to admit to some pangs of jealousy and a bit of bitterness. C'est la vie.

Keep up the good work. Perhaps I'll run into you in Brooklyn one of these days.

All the best,

--Sweet "There's Always Next Year" Willie

S-UU,

No call for jealousy, the pair haven't arrivetd yet. :(

However, I refuse to give up hope! On this forum, many kind kind words have been exchanged about Mr. Sadowsky and his craftsmanship and I have no reason to doubt he is making his best effort as we speak. Perhaps he took an extra day to inlay our names into the basses with exotic shiny stuff.

There is also the hope that Mr. Sadowsky has invested enough time and effort into the quality of the special edition Birthday and Anniversary instruments that he saved himself a few pennies by shipping them on the cheap. I am however, a bit miffed that he hasn't contacted me to confirm shipping information.

Mr. Sadowsky,

Your Eminence,

Oh Highly Regarded Luthieriffic One,

In the event that the aforementioned basses don't arrive this week, I look forward to them arriving in time for my bassniversary, on July 3.

Regards, Matt

My humblest apologies, Mr. Sadowsky.

Please note, the message has been edited, no disrespect intended.

While we're on the topic of names, S-Dub, I owe you my thanks for bestowing "M-Dub" upon me... I am truly honored.

A bit like Costanza and "T-Bone," there is a certain dignity affiliated with the title.

Dear Roger,

I am in total agreement about the enthusiam for your Metro basses. I (and others here) shop at Jimmy's (Bass Boutique) and look forward to trying these beauties out. Having played many of your basses when the NYC LowDown visited you (was that really Nov 2002?), I am well aware of your high standards and excellent work.

As a moderator on this board, I can only offer my apologies for the manner in which "the children" have behaved. They have been polite and respectful, which is good (otherwise I'd have taken them to the wood shed and found a new use for my leather guitar strap). Please excuse their whimsical requests. While I've tried to set a good example, once they go off on their own, it is impossible to control them. If they become too unruly, please let me know and I'll see about more severe punishments.

Thank you,

Tom

Birthday update:

I received a late birthday present today from a friend of mine -- the friend to whom I gave my very first bass (my Ibanez Roadstar II P-bass copy, the virtues of which I have extolled in the past on this board ;) ), for whom I have done the occasional set-up, and to whom I occasionally give informal bass lessons.

Can you say, "karma"?

Today he gave me educational bass books and CDs by Allan "Dr. Licks" Slutsky!

[*]Standing in the Shadows of Motown: The Life and Music of Legendary Bassist James Jamerson

[*]The Great James Brown Rhythm Sections 1960-1973

Yeah, baby! Prose, standard notation, and accompanying CDs -- a recipe for success! :thu:

(You see, Mr. Sadowsky, the positive returns from the gift of bass?! ;):D )

Peace.
