Dear Mr. Sadowsky:

You are probably too busy building basses to spend time reading the discussions on on-line bass forums. However, just in case you happen to be perusing the forum in the next couple of days I thought I'd let you know that it's my 34th birthday in two days (Saturday the 19th). I thought that even though we've never met you might consider gifting me this lovely Metro bass (M114) or this other lovely Metro bass (M115) . I would be proud to support this new Metro line of instruments, and I promise to take good care of either one, play it frequently, and do my best not to expose it to "clams". ;)

I realize that I'm probably reaching here, but if you ask around you'll learn that I'm a pretty nice guy and I love a nice bass as much as the next bassist (perhaps even more!). I also realize that you're trying to run a successful business in a competitive marketplace, and giving away instruments runs contrary to that goal. Nevertheless, the good karma that would come back your way is certainly worth taking into account.

If my plea has moved you to consider such a random act of kindness, please take advantage of the "private message" function and we can discuss the details. If you're worried that sending me a free bass will cause every other member of this forum to request one, you're probably right. Therefore, I swear to keep it "under wraps".

Thanks for your consideration in this matter.

Warm regards,

--Sweet "Could Be Playin' a Sadowsky" Willie

PS: Because one is natural finish and the other is black, and both are 4-string basses, I would be eligible to play bass in Philadelphia supergroup Cottonmouth DN. Unfortunately, since the band takes an active anti-logo stance, I would be forced to cover the "Sadowsky" headstock logo. However, they need to go through a couple more bassists and I would need to move closer to Philly before I would have a chance at making music with them on stage. (They are on bassist #6, and I believe my slot is #10, right after forum moderator Tom Capasso.)

Thanks again,

--SW

Dear Mr Sadowsky;

(edit: Don't tell Sweet Willie that I told you this, he's trying to be modest... asked me to keep it on the down low, know what I mean.)

Sweets is obviously too humble to admit (or too oblivious to remember) that in addition to turning his calendar over one more year, he is pursuing his Doctorate at Whatsamatta U. Soon he will complete his dissertation (if he can stay away from this forum) and receive notoriety for becoming more educated.

If, in your opinion, his age doesn't merit such a sizeable gift, please consider justifying your offering as a gift for his combined acheivements.

Mor Luv,

Matt

PS - Today is my wife's and my 9th anniversary. While we would appreciate a matched pair of four string basses, please make one of them fretless.

M-Dub: Let's keep the PhD thing on the "down-low" -- I don't want Mr. Sadowsky to dig deeper into that and find out that I'm supposed to get a custom Nordstrand 5er as a reward for earning my PhD. Just help me work the birthday angle, 'kay? ;)

BTW, I should have another dissertation chapter nailed by tomorrow. :thu:

First of all, congratulations! :thu: (My tenth wedding anniversary is next month.)

Second of all, I think a pair of Sadowsky 4-strings, one fretted and one fretless, would make a lovely anniversary gift. :)

Yes, it certainly does! :D

Dear Mr Sadowsky;

My son, Sweet Willie, would really like one of your bass guitars. Since he is doing well in school, and would really take care of it, please give him one as soon as you can.

Yours truly,

Sweet Willie's Mom.

PS: If it isn't too much of a bother, his friend, forceman, would also like one.

Early happy birthday, dawg!

Thanks, Thomas. Hopefully your wonderful relationship with Mr. Sadowsky as one of his customers, and the supportive and emotional letter of reference I'm sure you sent him on my behalf will help him understand what a good thing he would be doing. :)

Of course, if Mr. Sadowsky does not think highly of you (but really, how could he not?! ;) ), I will deny any knowledge of who you are.:D

(And, yes, that salmon P bass looks good enough to eat -- but more fun to play.)

Thanks, Dan, for the kind words. Do you own nine Sadowskys yet? It looked like you were getting close when you posted those photos of your collection. Perhaps you have enough that you could use your "free" bass on my behalf, so that I can be a Sadowsky owner just like you. :D

Phil, happy birthday to you as well!

Peace.

The thing is, I don't even like that color, but that one just calls to me. I think it's enchanted ... :freak:

To Roger:

If you can't send me a Metro bass, at least tell me when Jason Newsted (aka Jasonic) from Voivod's coming around to test something before their next album.

I'd appreciate it, and would even consider having your fine staff hack my precious 1994 Fender P Bass with a few upgrades. Lighter tuners (Hipshot, with d tuner), your active preamp, and some Duncans (Bass lines P bass vintage + Jazz Bass Classic Stack Bridge) would be nice. :)

Nice choice, basshappi. Mr. Sadowsky is certainly conscientious about supporting the left-handers among us.

Happy Birthday to you, Maury! Many happy returns, albeit belatedly. If memory serves you had the opportunity to perform for throngs of adoring fans with your band Papalegba.

Peace.

I believe Roger actually participates in "The Bottom Line" - an email based bass players digest. Do a search on The Bottom Line to find out how to subscribe if you're interested.

Yes he does, along with many other great luthiers AND players. I've been on TBL since '97 and sadly due to all these fast moving forums it's dying somewhat, but between the collective there is more bass knowledge than you can shake a stick at!

My most high profile interaction was with Neil Murray (of Whitesnake at al.) who came up with a rather good idea for an experimental 'Willis Ramp'...

Dear Mr. Sadowsky:

My fellow Low Downer, mound, has made a fine point. Unfortunately I have time for only one on-line bass group at a time. I could also contact you directly, but it seems that my friend, Thomas, has already taken care of that -- with a letter of reference as well, I'm sure. Also, posting this public message allows my bass brethren to say nice things in my support! ;)

Sincerely, though, keep up the good work. We occasionally post links to your stunning basses (who does your photography?!) out of appreciation for you and your staff's mad skillz.

Only one more day until my birthday. I'm willing to pay for overnight shipping if necessary. ;)

Best wishes,

--Sweet Willie

yeah I thought I've seen your name on there.. I've been on for as long as that at least.. don't chime in too often, it is sorta dying out as you said. Remember when Carol Kaye was a regular?

Happy days to all concerned, belated or not!

Be well and healthy, and always make music.

Nice one, Will, very ingenious!

Peace,

wraub

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

That would look really cool.

I'm definitly gonna build an all black bass sometime. And I mean AAAAALLLLLL black. no other color. Even black strings. :)

I don't know if Erik would want it as a 5 string, though. The last time some of us butted heads about this had him saying that he basically likes mainly 4's. This one's just right for me, except that I'd swap the pickups for some EMG's or Duncan Basslines, which won't add much to the total price.
