I own one, i say play it and see what you think, if your in that price range why not try out a g+l tribute, do lots of reasearch, find out reviews of the bass on the internet, also search here for warwick and you'll find loads of stuff.

P.S. what are the crappy warwick basses?

Great answer. Concise. Nice.

Cephas -- Can you try one out? Warwick basses aren't really my thing (well, except for a fretless thumb w/ piezos in the bridge that I got to play in NYC this past winter ;) ), but lots of players think they're great.

Peace.

Make sure you play them first. I like the sounds that other Warwick players get and they look cool. The only problem is that on testing I discovered that I can't play the darned things. They don't sit comfortably on me and first position is miles away from where I want it to be.

I love the active fretless 4-string Corvette. I don't care for other Warwick basses I've played.

And everyone else that says "Play It" are offering the best response. Only your own opinion of the instrument really counts.

CEPHAS - As you can see from my avatar, I play a Warwick Corvette. Mine is the standard though, not the pro-line. As everyone else has said, you must play it and evaluate it for yourself. I have always loved the sound and the atypical design of the warwick basses. However, as someone earlier eluded to, ergonomics are a whole other issue with these basses. The necks are long and first position is far away. Lucky for me I dont spend a lot of time in first position. But, when I do, my wrist feels it after a long set. Neck dive can be an issue with Warwicks as well. However, the Corvette is not as bad as the ever popular Thumb. I actually returned my original purchase of a Thumb for the Corvette for this reason. Warwicks are also very heavy in comparison to most basses. That is due to the high density woods used. If you get one, buy a nice padded strap. Your shoulder will thank you for it. Now after all those minor drawbacks, the tone of my Warwick is so good that I pretty much play it exclusively and consider the lack of comfort as payment for the great sound. However, sound is subjective, so this all boils down to the most popular advice in thie thread - -PLAY IT.

PS. I too would like to know which Warwicks are the lousy ones.

Groovehead mentioned that his corvette is quite heavy to play with, the proline is made of flamed maple which (to me) feels lighter than a normal corvette, neck dive is not a problem if you have the right kind of strap (the fender cloth straps work for me) i also find that if the strap is set low (infront of your groin, mmmm protective) then the neck does not feel as long. Check out the warwick site and download the technical spec. (you'll need acrobat to view it) that should answer most of your questions, once again find somewhere to play this instrument it'll really help you decide.

Yeah how much i got mine for £430 which is a total bargain, if it looks like a bargain get it anyway and you can always sell it on ebay for twice as much, so either way you can't loose.

Dontcha know?? The lousy ones are whichever ones don't work for you.

When I played the active Corvette fretless, the sound and feel were just magical. When I play anything else from them, that 'thing' just doesn't happen.... must be because the bass is lousy ;)

i believe Warwick has a line of cheaper basses than i'm used to them making. They're around the $600 range and they're colored. I don't know if they're crappy or not, i've never played one...but i'd bet they're decent at the least. but i play a 5 string Corvette and i love it.
if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit
