-Will-
I am wanting to buy a 5 string for my church gig, to have money I have to sell one or both of my current basses and I can't decide what I want to do. My basses are: 1. Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass 2. Peavey G-Bass (Graphite neck and active elecronics) Music has no boundaries. It is yours to discover, to enjoy, to draw from and to pass on to others. dcr
How much money, if any, do you have without selling either one? How much, if any, could you expect to have after some acceptable period of time? I ask because, for one thing, those both sound like good basses, and for another, you can actually get a pretty good fiver for pretty good money. I recently bought an active fiver (Yamaha) off eBay for $375, including shipping & case. I figured for the money it would be no tragedy if I didn't like it; turns out I love it. And I could've paid less; the RBX775 looks interesting, & Peavey is making some fivers at unbelievably low prices. If you could wait & save, I'd do that. If you simply have to get rid one of one of those basses, though, I couldn't tell you which one. (But do I recall a recent thread in which you weren't completely satisfied with the Fender?) Sorry, but good luck!
Mr. Phil
i voted Sell the Geddy, because I don't really like Fenders too much. And peavy makes a nice bass, and with Active Electronics you can come close to the J-bass sound. Now, go buy yourself a 5-er http://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/blue.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/black.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/fuscia.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/grey.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/orange.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/purple.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/red.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/yellow.JPG
tarkus
Neither, Restring one of the basses to accomodate the B E A D tuning (if you really need the low range).
jeremy c
Sell the Peavey and buy a Carvin 5. Check out the "in stock" Carvin basses....you can get a better deal and you can get it without waiting. Oops, I just looked, they don't have any 5 string fretless basses in stock. Too bad, they're offereing free shipping now. Free download of my cd!. Raven
I'd sell both and get a Carvin 6-string. Since I got my 6-string, I hardly ever play any of my other basses, which include a 5-string Ibenez and an 8-string Dean, except for my '63 fretless P-bass. Basshappi
Keep both, save up a bit longer and buy a 5. Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly what it is - B. Banzai Life is what happens while you are busy playing in bands.
-Will-
I've been trying out 5 Strings to find what I would like and get approximate costs. I played a couple of used Carvin's both 5 and 6 strings and they did not feel right to me, the necks were not comfortable for my hands. I also tried several other basses, Tribute L2500, Ibanez (can't remember the exact model), Yamaha JM1 to name a few and nothing has really called to me until today. I found a slightly used Skyline 55-01 Deluxe at a local shop. So now I have to have this bass. I'm going to sell the Geddy and get the Skyline. Of course, now I am contemplating selling both and getting the 55-02 Music has no boundaries. It is yours to discover, to enjoy, to draw from and to pass on to others. doc taz
Aw, you're selling the Geddy? That's a versatile tone machine... you're gonna miss it if you do. I know I would. I don't know anything about the other bass you have, but... oh well... G.A.S. sucks. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page

-Will-
I went and played the 55-01 again today. The Geddy is now up for sale, $550 w/hsc shipped anywhere in the lower 48. I will miss the Geddy, it's a great bass but I feel that the Skyline is more versitile. It is the quilted 3-tone sunburst with a rosewood fretboard, a very nice looking bass. Music has no boundaries.
