bootsy sans bass

did anyone catch saturday night live last night (april 3rd)? toots and that maytalls were the musical guest featuring the roots and bootsy (toots, roots and boots). as all i knew was that toots & the maytalls were the guest (which was really f@#king cool anyway) i got super excited when donald trump announced them as "featuring the roots and bootsy." "oh boy," says i. "three bass players on one stage!" but alas bootsy only sang. i never realized how tall he is.
Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

I was about to post a topic on this one, myself. I, too, was dismayed to see that Bootsy was not getting down on the bass. However, I must say, when listening to the music I could actually hear the bassline. Usually, though my small cheap TV set, I can never hear the bass line, in music videos or in live performances. Being able to hear it was a real treat, and it was a kicking line (at least on the second song, I missed the first) that really had me bobbing my head. Good stuff! I was impressed.

Yeah, I saw that. Righteous. First time in awhile I've been compelled to actually pay attention to the musical guest on SNL. Seems like I've been seeing Bootsy on TV shows and movies quite a bit the past couple years ("Standing in the Shadows of Motown," for one), but I can't remember the last time I actually saw him holding a bass. I think there are quite a few kids these days who know who Bootsy is, but don't even know that he's a badass bassplayer. He's just another "funk character" like George Clinton. Or Snoop Dogg.

Wait -- did Bootsy play bass on the "Funk Church" segment of the Grammy's this year? I think he may have.

Yes. That was such a chaotic mess, it didn't do any justice to Bootsy, Verdine, or anyone else. So I hope the face time given to all those great funkateers meant somethnig to the Britany fans.

Funked Up: The Very Best of Parliament gives credit to Bootsy for Guitar, Bass, Drums & Percussion, and Vocals. He is, indeed, one talented playa.

I remember seeing Bootsy with The P. Funk All-Stars back in '90... and he played guitar. That was kinda weird. He kept wandering on and offstage, changing outfits and generally acted like a freak.

That's Bootsy for ya.

On a related note, Toots and the Maytals were once in the studio where I used to work-nice guys, a class act. Toots himself was totally cool, warm and friendly. Maybe that was because I found him some necessities... ;)

Big-time fan, here.

And this "Bootsy" of which you speak intrigues me... :D

Peace,

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
