When bass players go bad...The Victor Conte Story

Victor Conte, former bass player for Tower of Power (he played for a while in the late '70's when Rocco was unavailable), is in the news on a daily basis nowadays.

As a sports fan, I've been reading the articles, but I didn't make the connection until today.

Evidently he's been selling "nutritional supplements" aka steroids to many top athletes. This case is going to have major ramifications on the world of sport.

Conte's sins are minor compared to Stanley Clarke.... who now believes he IS Stanley Clarke. My wife and I saw him in concert a couple weeks ago. He was about 30 seconds into an acoustic bass solo (not a song with a solo - an unaccompanied BASS SOLO) when my wife leaned over and said "Is this a piece of music, or is he just warming up?" I'd like to think I'm somewhat sophisticated musically, but she was absolutely on-target. There really wasn't any music happening there. Clarke was not nearly as impressive as he thinks he is.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

Yeah, sure, coyote, but who's the hypocrite here? Certainly NOT CLARKE!!! It's Conte.

AFAIK Clarke doesn't use any drugs to enhance his art. His improvs are 100% natural!!! Now of course, I did find your opinion very funny. :D

Sure, Conte can say that all athletes and coaches engage in the kind of behavior that he's being tried for, but I'll wait and see what the courts have to say, really. Too many allegations against him, though, so to me it doesn't look good. What a waste of talent.
