Piezo Pickups on Solid Body

Hi - Any opinions on whether anyone's got the under-saddle piezo on a solid (or semi solid) body sorted out yet? Like that Samick SAB13? Is there a decent sound on any of them or do we still have that awful jangly middly noise? Any input gratefully accepted - I'm in the UK and can't get to play the newer more esoteric basses 'cos they're not over here yet. Cheers, labougie.

I have heard a lot of piezo pickups on solid bodies that I like. I think the key is blending. A lot of basses only have a piezo on/off but if you can really blend the sound of your conventional pickups with some piezo the sound can be more defined in the high-end. It's great for slap stuff when you can go ahead and get a lot of good lows and mids then put just the right amount of sizzle so the pops really come out. Anyway...just an opinion.

I own an Ibanez Ergodyne EDA 4 string , and the piezo is its saving grace. The mag pup is one of the lamest sounding buckers I have ever heard on its own, but mixed with the piezo, it gives the bass a warm, round sound. And this is saying a lot since the body is not made out of wood.

"For instance" is not proof.

I have a Carvin LB76 fretless with the piezo option. I like it on the fretless. It gives me a little "finger" sound which I like.

The nice thing on the Carvin (which is quickly becoming my favorite bass) is that the piezo can be blended with the magnetic pickups. Very nice option and I think the only way to go. It is also nice to have the individual trim pots for each string.

I don't know if I'd get this option on a fretted - maybe. I guess you can always turn it off.
