need advice about road cases

Recommended Posts

hey everyone, its been a while since i posted...but here goes. ive been traveling more lately and recently i had a bad experiance when my rack fell of my cab while i was loading in to the trailer after a show. thankfully it didnt damage anything but my amp, and the damage it took was minimal. anyway, it got me thinking about the mishaps ive had with cabs in the past and ive been thinking about putting my 4x10 is a road case. my question is, where can i find cases for cabs? ive tried guitar center and that wasnt very helpful, and yes before someone mentions it i HAVE TRIED THE "HANDY DANDY SEARCH FUNCTION IN THE TOP RIGHTHAND CORNER OF THE SCREEN". if anyone has any experiance with these cases, or knows where i can learn more about them, i would really appriciate it. Tank you very much!

Anvil, Grundorf, Carlos and a myriad of other companies make road cases for amps, cabs, and other large pieces of stage gear. The standard of the industry is still Anvil. It's what I've been using for 25+ years and am still using.

Where in Alabama are you?

If you're within easy access to Nashville, you can bring your gear to Spectrum Case, or if they're still around, Nashville Custom Case. Both make wonderful road cases. Spectrum is a side business for Spectrum Sound. They use their own cases for many touring and convention sound applications. Theirs is as robust a build as you'll find anywhere.

None of these options are inexpensive, however.

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

I've seen them on eBay and they weren't THAT expensive. I ordered a rack case from them that was really nice. Some place out of Montreal, Canada. If the cab case is similar in quality, I would think it would be pretty good. I just about ordered one for my 4X10. I think it was under $300.

I wish you lived near me. When I bought my Hartke 4 x 10" and 350 head the seller gave me a road case he'd constructed for it. It's very big and very heavy but very well made and in perfect condition. It's sitting in a cellar, never been used, never been moved and I'd probably be quite happy to sell for a nominal amount or even give it away to someone prepared to collect it. Unfortunately transporting it to most places would cost more than it's worth.

There's a really good case company out of Canada called Clydesdale Custom Cases. I bought an amazing case for my Marshall head from them a few years ago, and it cost me about $250. The damn thing is practically bullet-proof, lined with puffy foam and is strong enough to sit under my whole rig onstage with absolutely NO problems.

I hadn't even thought about custom cases as Fantasticsound suggested. Guess I was a little tired last night. They're definitely a viable option, and sometimes a bit more reasonable than the larger commercial builders. Also, a lot of sound companies will sell cases for a fraction of what you would pay for a new one when they are depreciated tax-wise. The same holds true for larger music stores that do rentals and touring acts who carry their own gear rather than rely on backline.

thanks man. i just took a look at youre bands site. COOL!

Aaaah, we're just a bunch of rednecks who got tired of taking orders from primadonas :D . Seriously though, thanks. It's been a bit trying this year starting from square one, but well worth the hassle as doing my own thing has been way more rewarding than being a hired gun. Our first single was just officially shipped to radio yesterday...cross yer fingers for us.......

But I digress from the topic. Good luck on your case search man!
