Flemtone
Is Connie Z now a Real Bass Player? Play. Just play.
Flemtone
I felt compelled to post this poll, seeing that we've watched Connie grow so much here in the forums. If I had her determination, her drive, her never-too-embarassed-to-ask-a-question attitude, I'd be touring with Simon and Garfunkel next year. Of course, she'll never admit to it, so we may just have to push her into admitting that she really IS a bass player, with full rights and priveledges of the club. My vote is a resounding "YES" -'cause she's earned it! Way to go, Connie. You rule. Peace, Tim from Jersey Play. Just play.
Ouizel
Gotta concur, Flemtone. She's a bass player. (Way to go Connie! ) **Standard Disclaimer** Ya gotta watch da Ouizel, as he often posts complete and utter BS. In this case however, He just might be right. Eagles may soar, but Ouizels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Connie Z
Flemtone, you are so funny! Your poll is quite humorous, and your intent is totally appreciated. I myself voted that I need the drunk guy to pass out on my equipment, primarily so I'll have a good story to tell! Maybe it will happen this Saturday night, because it's our first real "bar-room" gig. Does he have to throw up on me or my equipment, if so, I shall bring some Febreeze, so as to eradicate the odor. Thanks everyone for your support. ... connie z "Change comes from within." - Jeremy Cohen The definition of LUCK: When Preparation meets Opportunity! http://www.cybergumbo.com
Flemtone
Negative on the necessity of human effluvia, although it can be used as extra credit. Just the fun of having some drunk biker weaving back and forth in front of you, blinking owlishly, with his hand on your shoulder, breathing the breath of the dead in your face, saying "youse guys are ghhhhreatthhhhh', while attempting to look you in the eyes...it's almost comical. That's one of the great things about bar-band playing - you stay sober while those around you become a danger to themselves and others. Also (from a guy's standpoint), watching the ladies dance with each other. All inhibitions go right out the window, just to be able to get out of the house and have some fun! The guys usually don't dance, and for good reason. Most guys that come to see the bands I'm in look like five miles of bad road, and almost seem proud of it. I mean, really...tuck in the shirt, brush your teeth - I'm tempted to bring a supply of small flags to stick down the cracks of butt I see on the caboose of some of these alleged humans. Eye-pollution, in my opinion... Enjoy the bar gig! You have been warned... Take care, Tim from Jersey Play. Just play.
The Bear Jew
I don't think Connie is a bassist. She is a musician who plays bass. There's a difference. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu

Yes, Connie... you're definitely a bass player, and I believe you're well on your way to becoming a bassist. tnb
I think that it should be noted that when she asks for advice she actually (I'm supposin') listens to the good advice. I have seen some of you ask questions, then some of the "more seasoned" posters (notice I didn't say old) give not just answers, but GREAT answers. And as the thread progresses, the person who is asking the question ends up taking the easy way out or taking the answer they wanted to hear in the first place. That is not how you improve. There are some awfully wise people who post here, listen up.
cornbread_medhotmail.com
She HAS to be better than me by now. I must admit, though, it adds credibility to your career to have the conversation with the drunk. Being a female in a male dominated career, you will, no doubt, have many more conversations with the drunks with bad hygiene. If they start swaying and you see their cheeks start to puff out, run. Bad things are about to happen.
doc taz
She's got my vote of confidence! Bravo, Connie Z! With someone of your maturity, I'm sure you'll know how to handle the drunks. Just come back here if you need more advice; I have plenty of experience with that myself, both as a musician, and as a concertgoer. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
Tom Capasso
Flemtone - thanks for promoting one of our own folks here. I can feel the love passing around. Connie, you've had enough experiences (musical and otherwise) - you don't need the drunk person thing. How many of us have played a gig on a float? For me, it was never a question. Cup
Off course she is, and always has been. Have you not seen her on the "New York New York" float?? Go On Connieeee
Connie Z
I DO feel the LUV!!! And the gig we are playing Saturday night, is in a great old-time barroom, complete with video poker machines and a pool table! The atmosphere of the place is perfect for a really relaxed fun time. My goal is to see if we can anyone up to dance! It doesn't really have a "dance floor" but it's got plenty of space for people to get up and boogie! We won't have a drummer that night, so the whole groove will be up to me. I shall report the outcome. ... connie z "Change comes from within." - Jeremy Cohen The definition of LUCK: When Preparation meets Opportunity! http://www.cybergumbo.com
