Phil,

Keep your radar on because there are occasional regional get-togethers by members of the board. When I travel, I now try to find time to hang w/ folks from the board. When I was in NYC back in December I got to chill w/ wraub and Bastid E, and spoke w/ Capasso via phone and e-mail but never managed to get together. When I was in Calif. this summer I was able to organize a mini-gathering w/ Wally, JeremyC, and Whappo.

Tom tries to keep the NY area folks posted on each other's gigs and such. He also organized a "field trip" to visit Roger Sadowsky last year. Make sure you're on Tom's e-mail list.

Wanna hang w/ some lowdowners? Set something up -- maybe a Michael Manring gig or a visit to a luthier in NY (David Segal and NY Bassworks maybe?).

BTW, a convention is also a great idea -- maybe based around an already existing event (e.g., the NY Bass Day?).

Peace.

Hey that's a great idea Wally! I've always wantd to go to a NAMM show, and to get to meet a bunch of you folks at the same time would be fantastic! Do you have to be an "industry" person to get into the show or can anyone get in?

Hmm... I will pay to see Wally Malone walk around in a t-shirt that has "Wally Malone" in big, bold letters.

That reminds me of a great pick-up line... walk up to the unsuspecting female with your buddy in tow, and say "Have you met yet?"

Wally, we might be able to conquer the world if you were wearing such a t-shirt! Just think of the impact of saying, "Hi, I'm Wally," in combination with your name in big, bold letters right in front of them! They'll have to assume your important!

Well, of course, January leaves me and other public school teachers out.

It's in the middle of contest season for us...orchestra contest, All Region, All District adn Solo and Ensemble Competition.

January-March the most stressful time of the year for me.

Ya know, we seem to have a lot of Lowdowners in Texas, New York, and the Central US. Seems to me we'd all travel the same distance to get to:

Eastern Kentucky...where my bloodlines run.

Actually, Nashville, Tennessee is only a $150 round trip from Dallas, and (cause I checked Travelocity) only a $219 round trip from New York. (for flights booked in June) Pretty good music stores. Go see Grand Ole Opry, take a day trip to Memphis (2-3 hour drive) and visit Graceland and Sun Studios.

I did check Travelocity for California...it's running $450 or so...that's a bit steep.

Plus, we have host Lowdowners both amatuer and professional in Nashville. They could tell us the best stuff for itinerary...hotels, sites all that stuff.

So, lets take this proposal seriously. I would be willing to set aside a long weekend in June next summer to fly in and stay at some Holiday Inn for visitation, bass exploration...maybe going out to eat somewhere.

Anybody wanna pursue that idea?

"Let's raise the level of this conversation" -- Jeremy Cohen, in the Picasso Thread.

Still spendin' that political capital far faster than I can earn it...stretched way out on a limb here and looking for a better interest rate.

My understanding is that one must have a badge from a manufacturer or retail business to get in. However, I did see a lot of players there this past NAMM. The bass-bash was held off-site where anyone could get in. Jeremy may know more regarding this since he's gone there many times, this last one was my first.

Wally

I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!

I'm all for a get together in June as well and I've never been to Nashville either that would be fun! Also I still have plenty of relatives in Texas so, name a place and time and I'll try to get there! :thu:

I'd definitely be up for that. Nashville would work, otherwise...anywhere in KY would be ideal for me. I'd love to meet some of you foo's.
