Infusion Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 I bought a Stewart amplifier a few years back. It was 1 rack space, light weight and promised 200 w/ch. based on some innovative "high speed switch technology" which promised to do away with bulky and cumbersome heat sinks and transformers......Well, I bought it and the bass response sounded like shit :freak: , especially with my bass-heavy keyboards. I sold it and got a Crown power base.
StoneKnife Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 Han... That's really close to how I run my 266XL; with the over-easy engaged, forget the Expander/Gate... (I have the ratio a little higher for V/O work). Call me nuts but I really like the little box. True, there are ways to set it up so it's not what you'd want! But for the $ it's really cool. Vegar- Glad you like the BM5. That saves $50 in shipping. Mine had weak bass and sounded like there was a towel over the tweeters. (Had Hafler power). They sure looked cool but the sound wasn't there. Went with Mackie's instead. I'd like to see a Best Gear thread. "We are the Federales... Gabriel E. Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 -Syquest SyJet external drive. Aside from the fact that they went "bankrupt" and I never got my $100 rebate (funny, a few months later they "reorganized" and are now solvent again), the stupid thing won't eject its cartridge. Botch. Posted June 11, 2002 Posted June 11, 2002 Another vote for Behringer, but not just because they rip off other's designs: their six-channel line mixer worked for me for three weeks, then died. Their feedback suppressor was dead, out of the box. The second feedback suppressor, dead out of the box. How do they stay in business??? And t-handle wine corkscrews. They always break. I bought a Hartke 140 wtt/15" basscombo for the studio. Almost nobody used it, so it was used 5 or 6 times when the speaker began to make very unfunny sounds. There was a crack in the alu cone, I sent it to the import company and they told me I blew the speaker! Imagine, the damn thing never had gotten loud like on stage. I learned later from a guy who worked in a big music store that many aluminium cones suffered from cracking and Hartke never gave any service. Well, for me it's not a big problem, but how about the young guys who save money and buys the f***ing gear? For me Hartke sucks big time  Peace, Han The alchemy of the masters moving molecules of air, we capture by moving particles of iron, so that the poetry of the ancients will echo into the future.

I noticed many guys complained about it but if you know how to use it, it can sound pretty good, even on piano! The problem with the 3630 is that it's pretty tricky to make the right adjustments for the job it's supposed to do. Something similar is happening with the Yamaha NS10M, many spit on it, some adore it. Over the last twenty years I saw many monitors come and go. Urei, big JBL's, big Tannoy's, small JBL control 5's, Auratones and many others came and went away. The NS10 is the only small and inexpensive monitor that stayed. Someday it will be a collectors item. :D And yes, a best gear thread is a good idea, you start it! :) The alchemy of the masters moving molecules of air, we capture by moving particles of iron, so that the poetry of the ancients will echo into the future.
