Hello, New to the Board

Tony Diez

Recommended Posts

What's up everybody, I'm Tony, new to the board. Well kind of, i've been reading ya'lls posts for a while, just never posted myself. Everyone on this board seems cool, so I though I would introduce myself.

I am a bass player, down here in Shreveport, Louisiana. I'm currently not consistantly playing with a band. I quit my last band to spend more time with my one year old.

I play a Modulus Q5. It's sweet. I'm very open minded to all types of music, but I am a bass freak. So if the song has a good bass line, I will like it, no matter what genre.

Anyway that's enough about me.

Awesome Board, i'll be around more often.

Welcome, Tony!

A very nice introductory post. :thu:

It's nice to read that what you've read here has been of enough interest to encourage you to become more active.

What kind of music background do you have? Formal education, learn as you go, what?

Have fun...we do. :)

Peace.

Tony, welcome to the Lowdown.

Spent about six-months in Louisiana in the late sixties playing with a band called the Boogie Kings. I lived outside of Lake Charles, the band played throughout Louisiana and Texas.

I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!

Yeah, welcome to the Lowdown! In the late sixties I wasn't even a gleem in a parental eye... and I have never been to Louisiana. I do, however, know a really funny Cajun joke about Boudreau & Clarence.

I've been here about 2 years, and I promise that the guys and gals will be very helpful. They may also flame you if you don't use the "search" feature first.

**Standard Disclaimer** Ya gotta watch da Ouizel, as he often posts complete and utter BS. In this case however, He just might be right. Eagles may soar, but Ouizels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I just added that as my tag... it came to me as I remembered a Southwest Airlines flight several years ago. The attendant actually said "husband" instead of "drummer."

Thanks - glad I could provide a chuckle. :D

Now here it is again:

Hi Tony,

You mean "up there" in Shreveport! At least I have to go North from Nu Awlins to get to where you live! :D

So, welcome from a fellow Loozianian.

I play in a Rockin' Oldies cover band in the suburbs of New Orleans, and sometimes in the city proper.

We are gearing up for an awesome Halloween set, which will be our first official "dance gig" in a bar with a dance floor. We mostly played coffeehouses, but now we are moving to oldies dance music, cause we want to make some $$$$.

I am excited about it. :D

Good to me you in the cyber-world!

Here is a "Pierre & Boudreaux" joke:

Note: Nub-bass! Boudreax, Thibodeaux, Pierre and Clarence (??) are all from South Louisiana, not North Louisiana... get it right!:D

[Cajun accent turned on here] Pierre and Boudreaux went on a camping trip. After supper and several beers they both laid down for the night, and went to sleep. Some

hours later, Boudreaux woke up and nudge Pierre.

Boudreaux says, "Pierre, look up at de sky and tell me whatchu see."

Pierre replies, "I see millions and millions of stars."

Boudreaux says, "What does dat tell you?" Pierre ponders for a minute, den says ...

" Astronomically , it tells me dat dere are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.

Astrologically , I observe dat Saturn is in Leo.

Horologically , Ideduce dat de time is approximately a quarter past three.

Theologically , I can see dat God is all powerful and dat we are small and insignificant.

Meteorologically , I suspect dat we will have a beautiful day tomorrow."

Well, despite all of de amazing information coming from Pierre, Boudreaux is not impressed. Boudreaux asks, "Mais Pierre, but *what* does dat tell you?"

Pierre is silent and puzzled, and doesn't answer.

Boudreaux slaps Pierre across de head and says, "Pierre, you idiot. Someone done stole our tent!" [Cajun accent turned off] :D:D:D

Man, nice welcome. You guys rock!!! I like to play a little of everything. I've been in rock bands, I did a little stint in the jazz band when I went to Northwestern (La not the real one). I love the funk. Here lately i've been enjoying more laid back music. I'm not formally trained on bass guitar. I've been playing bass for about six years. I am formally trained on trombone (bass trombone that is), but I rarely do anything with the trombone anymore. Trombone was fun, but I love the bass, I really enjoy playing. I mostly find myself practicing at home these days. I go jam with friends every once and a while. But just no time to be in a band with my wife, kid, and a full time job.

Again thanks for the welcome. You'll be seeing me around quite a bit.

My deepest apologies. I appreciate the correction. This shows that I need to visit the great state of Louisiana and get cultured. ;)
