El Whappo Bliss

Recommended Posts

Not that long ago I posted about having the opportunity to bring an Accugroove El Whappo home for the weekend and got to try it out with my Eden Metro. It sounded great, my wife said I was shaking the whole house. Well, today I got to use the same combination on an outdoor festival gig. It rocked. :thu: It was the biggest and best tone I've pulled out of the Eden amp. With the El Whappo being a 4ohm cab and the 8 ohm 210 of the Metro I was able to get closer to the full power the amp can produce. The gig was with the Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Rumours. We did a two-hour show, I played my six-string Alembic throughout and it was the best my B and E strings ever sounded. I was able to play with a very lite touch and had no soreness or tenderness on the fingertips of my plucking hand even after playing for two hours(there are three songs I don't play on). I think I've been spoiled. To make it worse, on Labor Day I'm going to try the El Whappo, the Whappo Grande (21 inch), the Stewart 2.1 and Marks preamp. Trouble is, I don't know if I'll ever be the same after that. :D

Yes, you have been spoiled.

Yes, you won't be the same afterwards.

Just wanted to give you a little affirmation, Wally! :D

You know I'm envious. ;)

You need someone to distract Lady Bo for ...say ... about 2 years so she doesn't notice where your money went.

(note - use of the past tense is to show that the purchase is a foregone conclusion)

Glad to hear they sound so great!!

I'd really like to know how the 21" speaker works. It seems like it should start an earthquake!!

Wally, youre doomed!! as an ccugroove dealer, i have had the chance to check out a couple of the cabs.

the Accugroove stuff kills, huge lo end and clarity..

also , Mark Wright is fantastic to deal with and very accomodating, his enthusiasm is contagious..

come on man,, you only live once.. if the rig floored you. go for it!!! i bet you got enough stuff laying around the house that you can sell and just get the cab you loved so much...

Praise ye the LORD.

Wally, is it true what accugroove says about their El Whappo? Can it really replace a 4x10 and 1x15. By the way there is an El whappo Jr. for sale on EBAY right now.

I'm sure it can, the sound is so big. I actually sold a 410 Eden XLT and a 210 Eden XLT to get an Accugroove Tri-112. I'm really looking forward to trying it with the Whappo Grande and some real power behind it.

Mr. Malone, it's time to accept defeat. Just fork over that credit card and be happy with your purchase. There's no way around it at this point.

I have played this very combination (except for a different power amp) in Mark's "salon" (oh, how very Enlightment of me! :D ).

It rules. :thu:

I can only imagine how much joy it would bring in a live performance. :)

The Whappo Grande even sounds great alone! Scary, ain't it!

You might also want to consider trying a Gordo 1x18 underneath your Tri-112 sometime. More portable than the El Whappo and Whappo Grande, but still madly full-range and huge.

Peace.

Unfortunately Mark sold his Stewart 2.1, therefore I won't be able to try the El Whappo and Whappo Grande today. What I will be using is the Whappo Grande (21 inch) with my Eden Metro. Since I've tried the El Whappo with the Metro I thought I'd try another combination. I did try many combinations at home including the Metro with the Whappo Grande and my Accugroove Tri-112, the Metro with the El Whappo, the Metro with the Whappo Grande, my GK800RB with the El Whappo, the 800RB with the Whappo Grande and the Tri-112. There wasn't one of the combinations that sounded bad, they were all good with some more preferable than others. Getting ready to leave for today's gig, I'll let you all know how it works out.

Today I got the Whappo Grande foot massage. Something about that 21" speaker laying on its side that relaxes the bottom of the feet. I can't wait until I get the opportunity to play the El Whappo and the Whappo Grande together with some big power behind them. Not to many things as fun as trying different gear. It's still pretty amazing what that Eden Metro combo can push.

You're going to hit the "Brown Note" with that combo/speaker for sure if you don't watch out. (If you don't know what "Brown Note" is, see South Park for reference)
