ClarkW
One of my new bands has a couple of songs where I find myself playing fretless, and I'd like to know how to adapt some of my fretted licks to fretless, and to come up with some fretless-specific licks to spice things up from time to time. Please offer up your suggestions and gems from your own bag o' tricks. I'll start with an easy one, the fretless dive bomb. Start at two octaves above your target chord, play the fifth (below that) and from that fifth, slide down to one octave above your target. If desired and you have time in the song, jump to the next fifth down and slide all the way down to your root. For example, if you're going to be coming in on an A, play something like this (rhythm however you want it, but I'll note it as a lead-in to a downbeat). 3 e & a 4 e & a |1 G: --------14------|- D: ----------14\~7~|- A: ----------------|0 E: ----------------|-
