Brunettefox_00
I play an Azola BugBass II and I have the original set of strings still on the bass from when I got it last year. I play Jazz exclusively, but in so I do use my bow for some of the older big band stuff. Through the year the sound on the G-string progressively became more and more Twangy. I like the deep rich sound the rest of the strings give me when I play, but the G (unless perfect position) will not be rich but annoying. Anyone have any ideas regarding what to do to fix this? From suggestions of nice sounding strings to boil on your stove antics, I'd love to hear anything!
rumpelstiltskin.
perhaps you want to look into thomastik-infeld strings. i have some roundwound TI strings for my bass guitar that are designed to accentuate the fundamental and have a richer, deeper tone. perhaps they make something like that in the E-URB market that would fit perfectly. i would expect strings like that to cost around $150CDN - $200CDN. not cheap, but allegedly the best strings ever made. robb. because i like people. Flemtone
You can check at this site for information about several different types of strings: http://www.juststrings.com or check out our Moderator's website: http://www.gollihur.com Bob Gollihur has the most up-to-date information about different types of strings and whatnot - a true URB junkie. It's also possible that the problem may not be in the string, but in positioning or height of the bridge, etc. Bob is just the guy who could help, if not from links and data on his webpage, then from an email to him. He may be one of the nicest guys I've met and is always willing to offer suggestions and tips. Hope this helps, Tim from Jersey Play. Just play. I'll leave those experienced with Thomastiks make a recommendation. I've only used Spirocores and I don't like them for arco (to bright and tough to get going). I've been using D'Addario hybrids (for arco/pizz) on my electric upright and they work for me. Good pizz sound, and the arco sound is very workable as well. Brunettefox_00
Ben, do the D'Addario have a deep sound? I'm looking for somethign more rythmic than bright. Through the cheap amps that I use they seem to keep a better sound. Thanks for the tip!
