DWBass
I have a problem which I initially blamed on my amp but it now looks like it's my bass(it's doing it with the new amp)! It is a Tobias (the cheaper one's from MusicYo) and it intermittently goes silent on me!! Has anyone ever experienced this on any bass? It has active electronics. I put a new battery in thinking that was the problem but it's still happening. It'll go out for about 10 seconds and then back in. Do I need a new preamp? Pickups? Please help!! www.myspace.com/thefunkfather

Please help!!You may want to check out the output jack. Notorious, even on finer instruments. Giggle the plug while it's in the jack and see if the bass reacts. If it does, it's either the cable or the jack. Both are relatively easy fixes. Obviously, try it with different cables, too. If that doesn't work, you have a couple of options: (1) pull the beast apart and troubleshoot or (2) take it to a tech. Good luck.
Connie Z
I recently had a somewhat similar thing happening, which turned out to be a wire that needed to be resoldered in one of my pickups. The sound would completely cut-out and I actually had to tap on the pickup to get it back. I play with a pick, and it rarely happened to me, but one of my bandmates plays my bass on certain songs, and he plays with his fingers and would rest his thumb on the pickup, which would apparently wiggle the pickup enough for the wire to lose the connection. I have an Ibanez GSR200 with passive pickups P & J. I took the pickup off and resoldered the wire and now it works GREAT! Good luck. ... connie z "Change comes from within." - Jeremy Cohen The definition of LUCK: When Preparation meets Opportunity! http://www.cybergumbo.com
DWBass
That sounds interesting. I'll try that in addition to checking for any loose wires in the cavity and jack. Thanks.... www.myspace.com/thefunkfather
The Fonz
i had a problem like this too recently and the culpret was indeed a loose wire. one of solder joints on the volume pot was gone. 2 minutes with a soldering iron fixed the problem. open up the cavity and see if there are any wiring issues. if the amp is relatively new take it back from whence it came and have them fix it (assuming it's still under warranty). Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.
PETE_COMBS
connie z and bastid e are correct, I had the same problem with a guitar I own.I would be playing and it would just go out on me while playing,so when that happened I would bang the side of the guitar with my hand and it would kick back in,So I presumed it was the wiring in the back.I checked it and sure enough that was the problem.
