We did a show last night at larger club in St. Louis that books some national touring acts. What did I take away from the experience?

Oh what a joy it is to have professional sound and lights!!! The bar was wired already. We just showed up with our stage amps and instruments. The sound guy set up the microphones for everything and kept us balanced all night. The lights changed with the type of song we were doing. Lit up bright at good moments. I had a total blast!!

This was my first experience in a larger club and Ive gotta get more of it now!! This thing called music is like freaking crack!!!!! HELP!!!!

True dat.

You can say what you want about the music being the thing that matters most, but nobody can deny that cool lights and a bangin' sound system can make a decent show into an amazing one.

Yeah, this thing called 'music' is the bomb, huh? Woohoo!!! Hope it sticks around. :)

It's cool to hear how excited you are. When ya got good sound folks and lights, all is right with the world!

Actually I wasn't gonna post anything, but I also played a larger club with sound and lights last night, and the sound guy sucked. The lights were great, so we looked good, but sounded like crap almost the whole first set, according to my girlfriend.

After the first set, he put on a CD and left the building for coffee and donuts. The CD started skipping, and the a waitress handled it. Everything she put in started skipping, which told us the CD player needed cleaning. He didn't get back on time, so we started our second set 35 minutes late. He rarely stayed at his console, and feedback started on a mic. Guitarist unplugged it, and doubled up with the other guitarist.

The owner of the club was there, so I'm sure he and his sound guy are gonna have a sit down talk about his job. Very piss poor.

A shit reminder of how much power a sound guy has over the band. I personally didn't mind, and switched my brain over to "paid practice" mode, and enjoyed the rest of the night. Our guitarist wanted to take this guy outback for an attitude adjustment.

But when the sound folks are good, there really ain't nothing better. We opened for Molly Hatchet a few weeks ago, and their sound guys did us great.

Glad to hear you got sound folks that cared, man.

Thanks!!

There were a few glitches but I'm not going to complain. Overall it was great. :thu:

Theres just nothing like a good show. Oh how frustrating it is when you have a bad one though. While Im still somewhat of a beginner in the gigging area Ive heard plenty of soundman horror stories. When the sound is provided and paid for by the bar you just never know what youre going to get.

Sound men are like a box of chocolates..

Yeah, they act like they're gonna melt if they get too warm from exertion.
