Okay, so I finally recieved "Any Raw Flesh" and "Salve" in the mail yesterday.

As I type this, "Firefly" is ripping my eardrums to pieces. This shit rawks.

Bump, I'm in envy of you that you get to play this stuff on a regular basis, and that you can play it. Bryan Beller's all over this record something serious. Yogi, I'm in envy of you that you can write stuff like this.

Far more articulate things have been said about "Any Raw Flesh" already (go check out Yogi\'s Website won't you?), so let me just say that so far my favorite tracks are "I Have a Very Bad Feeling About This", "My Love for Lois", "There is No More Evil" and "Firefly".

Plus the super-ultra-you'll-never-find-it bonus track ( :D ) is friggin' hilarious.

My neighbors hate me right now. :D

I'm just as surprised to even be in the band, let alone survive one version and get brought on to version 2.0. :)

*Hands down* the hardest single thing for me to play on both albums is the line that starts at 1:33 of "I Have A Very Bad Feeling About This". I played that stupid thing over and over and over and over and over.... yeah. Then we'd play this thing live and it would be 20bmp faster, which made that part that much harder to do.

In fact... live video plug! Over at the ol' band website, there is a windows media file of us doing this live. The bit in question happens at 1:33 of the video too!! WOW!! I never noticed that before. Of course, we don't start playing the song until 11 seconds into the clip.

I Have A Very Bad Feeling About This

Because I like to share my pain and suffering, here are the funny little black dots for this measure. I believe the album tempo is somewhere in the neighborhood of 108bmp.

Heh, to quote Steve Morse, "The only sweeping I do is in the garage!" No sweeps in that lick, it's all the alternate picking dealies. And thanks, Ben for all the nice words n' such! Glad you're digging the stuff.

Hey, this is cool stuff. I checked "My Love for Lois is Real" and "Firefly" and they're awesome. A nice blend of instrumental virtuosity and actual songcraft.

Good on ya Yogi!!!! and double good to you Bumpcity for being able to play this stuff as well as just getting to play it.

BenLoy, don't hog all that envy for yerself!

Is a eight rest missing from you notation?

Otherwise... Will be working the passage up to speed.

Actually, it should be written as 7/8, not 4/4, so everything but that big "C" is right. Although honestly, and I'd have to dig out the masters to see, I'm not sure that Beller actually played that first note as written. I think he may have done it an octave down, which makes it much simpler to play. But I can't remember and it isn't obvious to me when I listen to the track. But I do play that lick on guitar as written, though.

Man, how do ya handle the Ab G F drop at that tempo? At half time, plus, maybe, a third that line is still a bitch.

Clue me in.

Well, first, I harness the power of The Force... :D

It's a beeyotch, no doubt about it. For starters, I have a 5 string. If you are trying to play this on a 4 string... uhhh... good luck with those first 3 notes. ;)

Here is the Evil Satan TAB for how I play this line, because it's going to be easier than typing out "D string 6th fret, E string 3rd fret..."

G--------------------------------3--

D-6--------------------------5------

A-------4-3-----6-6-----3-6---------

E---3--------6-------4--------------

B-----6-----------------------------

Like I said, pure evil.

Come to think of it, the main line in the rest of the song isn't exactly a walk in the park to play on a standard tuned instrument either. I refuse to tune to drop Db like the guitars!! Viva The Pain of playing everything in standard tuning!!! :D

I should post the two main synth bass parts from "The Is No More Evil In This World" too. Beller doubled the synth bass line on the album and I, in turn, have to play it when we do it live. It's a bit of a monster as well, none-more relentless 16th notes for 5 minutes at about 130 bpm.

OK, sharing & caring mode is in full-effect. Here are the two main themes for "There Is No More Evil In This World". I think the proper tempo is actually 126 bpm. Weeeeee!!

Bump, Yogi,

Yeah, I play four strings. I'm just very, very stubborn.

And yes, taking that Ab down an 8va makes a huge difference. Beller is a wise man. It'll still take some time to get it up to tempo but it at least seems possible that way. Kind of rolls off the fingers. On the four anyway.
