Saw Stanley Clarke last night...

Truly amazing performance. They started with a jam where Stanley introduced the members of the band and they all took a solo (he had a bass player from S. Africa who he introduced by saying "He's on stage with Stanley Clarke, so you know he's pretty good"; he was amazing, definitely Marcus Miller influenced). Then he played "Lopsy Lu". They covered a Charlie Parker song, and a Charles Mingus song. Then he whipped out the acoustic; he gets such a beautiful tone on the acoustic. I play electric only, and I was floored! He played one solo acoustic piece off his new album that blew everyone away (he was playing chords, and flamenco strumming, and slapping above his fret hand). They closed the show with "School Days".

My wife summed it up well when she proclaimed "We've just witnessed a true artist, that was art!".

Well it's off to the woodshed...

I believe the bassist for this tour is Armand Sabal-Lecco. A truly scary monster he is indeed. Him and Stanley have been playing together for years.

Stanley's alwasy been an extremely good acoustic bassist. He started out strictly as an upright player, and has played with some of the finest jazz artists in the world.

If you're looking to hear his upright playing in full effect, go pick up Chick Corea's "Light as a Feather."

There, I recommended it before Jeremy did. :D

Yes Sir you are correct! And Jerry Brown was on drums. A 22yr. old Dane was playing violin, and there were two keyboard players.

My wife and I were at his show in Annapolis, MD a couple of months ago. A great night of music indeed. Absolutely loved his upright solo, especially when he started slapping it! Never ever seen that before, he just blew me a way with that.
