earljam
Anyone used these? what did you think? I'm looking to upgrade my jazz pups; our band plays stuff like Dr. John, Professor Longhair, Neville Bros., Marcia Ball. This is my 2nd bass and I've never hot-rodded one before, but I feel the need.....
Basshappi
Hi Earljam, I have not tried those pickups. However, there are several places to check for reviews. Bassplayer magazine did a j-bass pickup shoot out a year or two ago and you can search their archive. I seem to recall that it was pretty through. Also there are many reviews from players who have installed different pickups on both (bgra.com) & (harmonycentral.com. As for myself, I have always liked Dimarzios. Two of my basses wear them now and I am probably going to add them to a third (though I haven't decided yet.)My '75 P-bass has a p-j configuration with a 3-way mini switch and I can get just about any tone I need/want from them. Hope this info is helpful to you. Good luck! Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly what it is - B. Banzai Life is what happens while you are busy playing in bands. Mike R.
Are these the '60s custom shop ones? if so, than yes i used these. They're great p/ups you can get a lot of growl from them, but they do not cut through a mix as well as other brand pickups.
