Basshappi
Hello Everyone, I have been lurking around here for several weeks now and finally registered last week. So I guess it's about time I stood up and introduced myself.I have been playing bass for 25 years. I tend to prefer rock though I have played many different styles over the years.I am right handed but play left handed and primarily 4-string ( I have a 5 but just can't seem to get the hang of it!). I also played double bass in high school orchestera(when dinosaurs ruled the earth!)and would love to do that again, but those things are sooo expensive! and then of course there's that whole lefty thing again.... oh well.I have been enjoying reading all these posts and I am looking forward to joining in the discussion of all things bass! Deepest Regards, Basshappi Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly what it is - B. Banzai Life is what happens while you are busy playing in bands. Bartolini
Hello there and you are welcome. You say that you are right handed but play left handed? Man I can't beleive this. Tell me about it more. When do you feel like switching hands and basses? Based on song or ..mood etc?
Basshappi
Hello, I guess I should have explained this in my first post. I have a birth defect of my left hand but my right hand is normal. I have always had to compensate for this so it is not really any big deal. I also play keyboards so its been just a matter of adapting. The only inconvienience is that which all leftys face...limited availability of instruments, though that isn't as bad as it used to be! davebrownbass
Hi Basshappi and welcome to our club. Wow...talk about coincidences. I've been playing bass for 30 years and I teach HIgh school orchestra and high school bass players. And I've been to Tuscon, playing bass. And I once started a new topic about how proud I was to be a dinosaur. I talked about this in Gettin\' Busy. In fact, I have a close friend who is a fine jazz trumpet player, who damaged his throat, so he had to learn another instrument...so he decided to play the bass. And he was a righty who had to play lefty because his LH little finger was burned off in a house fire as a kid. Small World, eh? Welcome to the Lowdown. It will pay back whatever time you give it. Tom Capasso
Basshappi, Thanks for taking the time to observe us for a while. By doing so, you get to see what we are about and can easily fit in! Read the FAQ at the top (if you haven't already). Feel free to ask questions of the moderators if you have a question about how things work. Welcome On a technical note, don't worry about double posts. They happen due to various causes (you're old enough to know what gremlins are, but moderators delete them when they happen (which isn't too often). Quite a story about your LH / RH thing. Glad to see you are persevering! Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals.
