davebrownbass
Welcome to Texas...for what reason are you relocating? I'm not really familiar with Austin's scene, although I know they have one. I understand it's a 2 headed beast...either country or alternative, with little in between. I don't know if that is true. I'm in Austin (which is 4 hours south of me) 4 times a year... Maybe we can have a Lowdown party down there some time. lessee...cornbread is pretty close to you, and maybe Cowbell Allen would take a road trip, as well as chromos and granttheman and we could have us a good southern party at some music store down there...maybe Ray Hennig's Heart of Texas Music (used to be a great store...last time I was in it had dried up and almost blown away. Welcome to Texas....in Austin, you gotta get your allegiances together now....Rangers or Astros? Spurs, Rockets or Mavericks? Cowboys or...uhhh....? Democrats or George Bush? "Let's raise the level of this conversation" -- Jeremy Cohen, in the Picasso Thread. Still spendin' that political capital far faster than I can earn it...stretched way out on a limb here and looking for a better interest rate. humabass
Get in touch with Glenn Kawamoto at Austin Bass Traders if you need gear. He's a great guy to work with.

Plus a couple of months ago the wife announces she's decided she doesn't want to be married to me anymore...As Larry McMurtry said in one of his novels "When you can't think of what else to do, it's just best to head for Texas." I lived in Austin in the early 90s, know it and love it. Thanks for the replies! Would Austin Bass Traders stock any quality lefties?

JSikes
I'm a student at UT, although I'm off for the summer and out of town for the next couple months. I'm a big fan of the Bass Emporium . I've taken lessons, hung out a fair amount, and played many a fine bass over there. The owner, a guy by the name of John Files, has always been approachable, friendly, and extremely well informed on bass matters. Michael Manring performed at the store back in May. It was a great show, and I've been told some other mighty big names in bassdom will be stopping by eventually. Hope you enjoy Austin! -Jonathan

He's got the stuff but at top dollar; plus I tried to do biz with him one time and didn't have a good experience. For myself I'd just as soon deal locally and hope a good deal comes in. DigiVoices
Austin was rated as one of the best cities for singles. So you should be able to find quite a bit of everything you're looking for.
