DanYmaL X
We're going to be gone for 6 days putting the new CD together. (the nearest studio is 80 miles away so we are going to stay in a hotel...) This will be the band's second CD, but my first... kinda nervous, but I know I'm as ready as I'll ever be, and so is the rest of the band. It's gonna be tough being away from the family for that long, but I sure as heck won't miss work! I am probably going to need another vacation after this though. Don't, under any circumstances, keep thinking "Oh god, this is the studio, we're paying for this, I can't makes mistakes... aaahhhh!!!"; or you know, things of that nature. It will make things infinitely worse. Have fun, joke around with one another, keep things loose, and post samples as soon as you get them!
DanYmaL X
Thanks bump... I'm not really nervous about the playing part... out of all of us, I think I am the least worried about the music... but I think there is going to be a lot of tension there because the others are less confident and are going to be more stressed. I'll just have to try to keep the mood pleasant and relaxed... I'm going to try to keep a journal posted, and will definitely post some samples on the Band website when we are done. Tom Capasso
Everyone is different, but I've been staying in a hotel during the week recently. I've learned that if I put the TV on at night, I don't get enough sleep. For me, keeping a regular schedule (something not too different from real life) will help. It's not all "fun and games" now that you're away. Best of luck. You'll learn a lot, and I'm sure you'll do well. wraub
DX, be sure you practice your ass off, bring back-up strings, cords, batteries, tools etc. and be prepared. Show up early, and listen a lot. Ask questions about your tone, and how to acheive it. Then forget all that, relax, and have fun! And yes, sound clips ASAP, please! Best of luck! Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
DanYmaL X
They played 2 of our songs on the radio today!!! And it sounds awesome. We have a release concert coming up this Saturday night... now we have to live up the the CD! The first run of the CD should be in our hands tomorrow... this is very exciting. I know a lot of you guys are veterans, with CD's, tapes and even 'ahem' vinyl under your belts... this being my first recording, its way cool. More to come, I hope. The studio was in a music store (Two Street Music) in old town Eureka, which, while it is a neat old part of town, is also not a very pleasant one. The shop/studio is right next door to the rescue mission... The engineer was Mike Kapitan, formerly of LA, of Thomas Dolby fame (anybody recognize the name?) and he was infinitely helpful and we all earned a new respect for what a sound man really does. He added a few touches that exponentially improved the finished product. Gear-wise, we all just DI'd into the board. My Carvin head did a great job. I did most of my tone adjusting on the bass, and it turned out pretty good, I think. The guitar player used his Line 6 Flextone 3... DI'd in stereo. Way cool. Line 6 makes some cool stuff. On the last track I used a nice Washburn acoustic that the owner had hanging on the wall... it had been there for over a year but it sounded great and that was probably the most it had been played at one time during that year. Here's our website with some samples on the music page: http://webpages.charter.net/joyfulnoise/index.html {edit} http://www.letitring.com {/edit} Go to the Music page and click on the picture to hear the clips. TomActually I was hoping someone here would know a bit more about Mike Kapitan... I know there are a lot of folks on here from LA... ibscotty- it was a blast. I wish we had had more time, as we had to cram 12 songs, recorded, mixed and mastered, into one 40 hour work week. At $45.00 an hour it added up quick. I think I could do that full time though... maybe I will. Now how to break the 'good' news to the wife... "Hey hon, I just quit my good paying job to spend all of my time in the studio... yeah... it's 45 an hour... ummm, no... I won't be making 45 an hour, that's what it costs. Honey? HONEY? Hello? Uh Oh...." DX Aerodyne Jazz Deluxe Pod X3 Live Roland Bolt-60 (modified) Genz Benz GBE250-C 2x10 Acoustic 2x12 cab

MattC
Isn't it great when the first recording session goes well? I wish mine would have... Actually, it rather inspires me to record myself. Oh, wait, my RTR died and my new computer won't be here for a few weeks. drat. Congratualtions anyway! ...think funky thoughts...
Slaerty
$45 an hour, man I am so glad my school has its own studio. We just spent the school hols in there recording some stuff for free. We will pay some $ to get it mastered though. Should be done mid Aug. Good to hear Christian music aint dead oops I didn't think the boot print would be that big sorry guys. orphan wells
The most important thing in the studio is to ask questions about everything. make sure your tone is just right even if it takes a little extra time. Don't just "live" with something if you don't think it's right. your paying them, make it right. You'll be supprised how much you can learn from a well educated audio engineer. I didn't come here to play. I came here to make babies.
