As for whether jazz has produced any power trios, I submit the Chick Corea Akoustic Band and the Oscar Peterson trio. You can't tell me with a straight face that Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, and Ray Brown weren't powerful. Screw a drummer, who needs one anyway? And big ups for ZZ Top.
