71jazz
Hi, Has anyone had any experience with these Ampeg Port-Bass cabinets yet? I need something lightweight due to a bad back and while the Epifani Ultralight series would probably be awesome, they're nearly twice the price. I'd probably be looking at the 2-12 cabinet as that should be big enough to do any gigs but I think one store said they weren't very impressed with this and as a result weren't carrying it. Any experience you have with these would be appreciated. Thanks
jreed
I have to jump in this on too, not has someone whos knows anything about them, though, sorry. . Ive been looking at these too. havent played on one yet. But, they look good. I was reading about them on Ampegs site, They had the 2x12 and 2x10, both 4ohms, I forget the watt handleing, but, I remeber it was plently for me, I have a Ampeg svt, 2 channels @200 watts at 4ohms each. So, the portacab (if they sound good) would be perfect. I know I hate luggin around a very heavy and awkward to carry 4x10 cab, and , Im guessing the other band members dont like it either. jreed jreed00@dcemail.com
saqle
On this note, do you think that 200watt is enough for any gig? Im trying to understand the need for wattage from a bass amp, Ive so far heard that you need to double the watt the guitarrist use (50&50 to 200W, 100&100 to 400W aso.) Im a beginner at bass and will soon start playing with bands to improve my playing skills and so im now thinking of buying a 500w amp head so that I dont have to get a new amp again in a couple of weeks with more wattage, does this amount of wattage make sense? jreed
well, about watts. From what I understand about them and ohms (which isnt a whole lot) 500 watts should be plenty. Mine, like I mentioned is 200 watts @4ohms, my cab is 8ohms, so, I think (please correct me if Im worng, anyone) my cab is getting about half the power from the head. If I were to add another 8ohm cab, that would equal 4 ohms and get full power. And right now, I dont play really big venues, my rig is loud enough. so, the Portacab being 4 ohms should get full power and its lighter with wheels. jreed jreed00@dcemail.com
