OT: Insomnia-induced randomness

...

Recommended Posts

Can't sleep. Tired as hell but I can't sleep. Insomnia bites ass.

Burning question that popped into my head a while ago:

Have you ever written a piece of music based on what something looks like? For instance, I'm thinking I really need to write a song and make it sound like a fruit salad looks. A fruit salad looks like it would be in G major to me.

LOL.....Flashback, flashback! Didn't think those rumors about acid were true, did ya? :)

......I'm thinking a Cmaj7.....

Bassplayers aren't paid to play fast, they're paid to listen fast.

you could actually choose your intervals based on chromatic changes from one fruit to the next. that is to say, numerically assess each fruit's color (in RGB) and use that data to determine which chords to use for the song.

i have a friend who has experimented that way to varying results.

I think you should focus on the experience of a fruit salad. The look, the taste, the way it feels when you chew it. I'd say it sounds a bit lydian to me. Something like Fmaj7 -G7/F.

But if I have to really waste time on musically portraying things, I'd choose a ssexy looking babe. Or a tight bum, but not a fruit salad, man you really need some sleep! :D

A friend of mine did something like this while we were in college. He was taking astronomy 101 (and failing... damn musicians.. :D ). For extra credit, he wrote music for several of the planets based on their distance from the sun and the overtone series/relations there in. We performed a 30 minute set for the class near the end of the quarter. Lots of improv over extremely bizzare scales. The class looked confused by it all.

Still life in D minor? Sorry, dude, you're on your own there.

I once saw something about some sensory organ condition that mixes up info. It kinda like info from one organ gets processed by another of something. Stuff can literally smell blue, or taste blue. You can see prickly of bitter. I think you get the idea.

Although it really screws with your perception of reality, it's said that people who suffer from this condition have the potential to be great artists, since they can have a more intimate view of abstract ideas. I guess it's not that abstract to them huh?

Does it hurt?

You know, once while I was tripping on LSD, I heard Jimi Hendrix play a solo that tasted like chocolate. Man, it was tasty.

As much as I hate to talk about drug use... last night I smoked out for the first time in at least 2 years. I was with some friends and hit it because it was the social thing to do in that crowd. We were watching the Hendrix performance from winterland and I was 'seeing' the music as these intricate crystaline structures. It was very, very odd. I can't say that it did anything for me, and I have no desire to try and experience that again... it was just.. odd. There, I've shared my drug story. Carry on.
