Whatever happened to Charvelle

Recommended Posts

I have a Bass that was given to me by my uncle which is a Charvelle. He said it was circa 80's. Were these manufactured by another company? Are they still around? The Bass plays really nice and seems durable. My uncle does'nt play Bass, it was given to him in trade because he knew i did so he does'nt know anything about it. Any info would help please. Thanks!
Set the pace.......add more Bass!!

Bouncer, welcome to the LowDown. What part of Kentucky are you in? WKU?

Anyway, if memory serves (which may or not be the case), Charvel was bought by Jackson at some point... and I believe Jackson was later bought by... Gibson(?)

Hope maybe this helps in some small way. I still see Charvel axes from time to time on ebay. For what it's worth, the very first musical instrument I bought was a Charvel CX-290 (strat-style) guitar. Never had a problem with it in any way.

...simply stating.

One of my guitar players had a very nice Charvel, and if I recall, Jackson kept the Charvel name for a while as the label for their higher-quality stuff.

Of course, if your bass is actually a Charvelle then maybe it's nothing but a really cheap plywood knockoff. :)

Perhaps they took a page from the Chevrolet Chevette and Chevelle? :)
