Patch cord recommendations??

Hi,

Just curious if anyone has a strong recommendation for a patch cord. I have a Monster Cable 100 series (which is their standard line) and a ProCo Lifelines cable. Out guitarist swore he could tell a difference between the two when he used them one night -- the ProCo being better -- but I've never really A-B'd them.

In any case, just wanted to see if anything is preferred by people out there.

Thanks

i would stay away form those cords with the encased plugs. you know, the ones that have all that rubbery crap on the plugs that prevent you from opening them and repairing them. what a rip-off, there should be no such thing as a disposable cable.

wraub has this SUPER slick cable that's all wrapped in steel, like the cord on a payphone. i am certainly coveting his ice cream bar. on a smaller scale than that i would recommend braided cables. i find the have less of a tendency to kink up.

Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

Hi there.

I must agree with the Bastid on this. A cable you can not repair is a bad cable.

The cable E is referring to is my favorite, after many years, over many others. It works well, sounds good, and, best of all, it is shiny. :D

But seriously, this is a rockin' cable, and I like the fact that it doesn't kink or tangle under stress on stage, and, again, it looks easy to repair, should I have to. Did I mention it's shiny?

Anyway, It is called Armored Cable, and it's made by Samson. This is not where I got mine, but check this out:

If the link doesn't work, just go to www.samash.com, and search around. Try Samson, then armcables. It appears to be a closeout item.

If you don't like Sam Ash, that's cool with me, shop your favorites.

They are good cables, though.

Peace,

wraub

p.s. Talisman, you posted while I was searching the web. Too fast! :D

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

Apparently they are closeout -- looks like they're limiting the range of lengths they offer, so some of the older lengths "gots ta' go".

Also, looks like they have George L guts on the inside of that telephone wire. Good stuff.

I might have to pick up a 15' for $20!

Peace.

I'm using Planet Waves and some no-name brands (one is red/white/black braided cloth cover, another is regular black rubber). The Planet Waves broke and was replaced.

Two points -

1) While I can solder, I've been buying "lifetime guarantee" cables so I don't have to. I walk in, pick a new one off the wall, hand the old one over (I keep the box and receipt just in case), and I'm done. If you want to make/fix your own that's cool, but I don't need to.

2) I'd love a cable that never broke. The armour ones may be that cable, but in the interim we have to deal with this. If a cable broke at "a critical time", that's life. If a cable's lifecycle is short, that's a pain. I got about a year out of the Planet Waves, and it broke in the "middle", not at the plug ends - I must have crushed it somewhere. I found the problem (sudden, huge buzz) as I was setting up for a gig. Reached in the bag and pulled out another cable...

I've heard stories from my cousin (who used to work for Ash and now works for a smaller store on Long Island) that the Monster cables failure rate is a bit higher than other guaranteed cables. Many like George L (which I'll probably try next).

Thanks

Tom

I had a Monster Cable patch cord fail on me (the expensive bastard). Ever since, I have used a Spectraflex 18' cord. It has yet to do something nastii to me during a rehearsal, show, or recording session. I've had this cord for probably 3-4 years now. Chad (BassNW) convinced me that they were, "the shit, it's all we use in the store". Indeed. I'd buy another one.

I use George L's here. Not too sturdy as appearance goes, but they are very light and sturdy. The best part.... when they short out, unscrew them and cut an inch off the cable and go again... brand new cable! its great. its a MUST have for wiring up your pedal board, I got a pedal board package for 30 bucks on MF (10 right angle plugs and 20 feet of cable) what a steal! they sound great too!
you can make stumbling blocks, or stepping stones out of the same things, what have you built?
