I'm stuck between 6 and 8.

4 for power amp and preamp

1 for power thingy

that leaves me with either 1 or 3... I wish there were 7 rack spaces.

How many do you have? Do you wish you had more/less?

I want a good case, but dont really like the skb hardshell blimp looking things. Any others out there good?

Boyee - does everything need to be hard?

You probably need to think about possible future additions to your rig.

Tuner? 1 rackspace

Effects unit? 1 or 2 rackspaces

Wireless receiver? 1 or 2 rackspaces (Not sure, never used one)

Also, sometimes some empty space is good to help keep stuff a little cooler -- it allows some airflow. You can buy covers for those spaces if you don't like the way the gaps look between, above, or below your gear.

Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars.

Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.

You can fill that space with a new processor I'm working on, my own original design. It's called the De-Suckifier. You use it on a night when your playing really sucks and it removes the suck from your sound. It's a one-space processor with just a power switch and one knob, the suck threshold adjuster. It will be available in monop or stereo.

Go to the Keyboard Corner and check out the topic, "Oh MAN! You guys gotta see this" for another option.
