Best wishes to everyone.

Always a time to take a few moments and reflect on things we may take for granted and should sometimes be a little more thankful for.

Respectfully, Tom Newton

Here, Here! Happy hols to all members. To highlight this as the the season of good will my new employer (large financial organisation) decided to fire me on Thursday. Seems I possess levels of incompetancy that are just too high to be trusted with people's mortgage accounts!! :D

Ahh well, I'll enjoy Christmas and then look for a new job.

Last year, Dan South quoted "The Night Befoire Christmas" in some post, I think related to something about a Lakland. About the same time, I was looking through old issues of BP to answer a forum question, and ran into a bass guitar that I remembered that Peter Romano owns (Brubaker/Lakland). Before I knew it, stanzas appeared on my computer screen about my doing bass research (and my boring life). I hope you enjoy it....

I wish you all His peace for the holidays!

Tom

The Bass Before Christmas

Twas a week before Christmas, I was in my room

And alone in my house it was a silent tomb

There wasnt much doing anywhere in my place

And that was fine I was thinking of Bass

Perplexed by a post on my favorite forum

I knew in a moment, my life's geeky boredom

Someone had asked of the Growler from Tobias

And I detected inside me a positive bias

So I went to my room, opened up my night stand

Where I keep the past copies of BP on hand

I searched through old copies of that wonderful mag

But my spirits were low when my hunt hit a snag

I thought I remembered a Growler review

But December 2000 - it just made me blue

There was a review of the model called Toby

My heart went as dry as the desert named Gobi

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

But a Tobacco Brubaker on the next page of gear

I recalled how this very guitar had been bought

By a guy who selects his guitars with much thought

It is said that the tone and the feel are much sweeter

Than the instruments already owned by one Peter

Hes said to be happy he knows what to do

And to all of his gigs, he brings out his Bru

I see him laying a finger aside of his nose,

And saying now stop it this is terrible prose

And then hed exclaim, and this is a fact

My Bru is the best, until I get my Lak

Hey Cup,

Here's the voice of experience...I got fired from my management job at a famous children's hospital in this area 2 days before Christmas, 1993. It was a really dark time. I was assigned to write the days-off roster for the month of January. In that hospital, all employees were required to rotate weekends EXCEPT the single white employee; he'd been given a special dispensation to get every weekend off.

I refused, and was fired.

Anyway, the situation made me realize that I could never change institutionalized racism with adults...if I was to have an impact, it must be with children.

I began teaching, and have never looked back. I'm having the time of my life, and am back on the road I should have never left.

In fact, if it weren't for that, I would have probably never found my way to this forum.

Have faith, Cup and all. Sorrow only lasts a season, and joy comes in the morning.

Hey Cup,

I'm in the same boat. I got fired because my girlfriend refused to sleep with my boss. That was June, and I still am looking. Don't let it get you down. Don't let them beat you. You're better off now. I'd be willing to bet you didn't really like that job too terribly much. Enjoy the holiday season. Enjoy your family. Enjoy your bass! Keep your chin up. The best way to get back at them is to show them you don't need them. I have a strong suspicion you're going to find something even better.

Merry X-mas to everyone! Remember to take it easy!

Here's a little picture of my new X-mas tree, as you can see I have been really good this year (and now I'm broke, happy but broke) ;)

Hey folks! Thanx for all the support, you're all too cool. I'm not down or anything, of course I'm not over joyed but things will work out cool.

He who laughs last....hee hee. I bought my new amp and bass on a differed loan thru a private loan company. I knew I was getting the job with the Mortgage place..as soon as I started the job I applied and received a staff loan (much, much lower interest rate) Thankfully I took the payment protection insurance out...So in 30 days, if I'm not working, my old employer will have to start paying my monthly installments on my £3000 loan!! :D:P

I've also got the possibility of a new job in telesales, dull I know but so was the last one.

Have a cool yule !
