Here's the budget..hook me up

Recommended Posts

My buddy has a 50' * 80' bldg that he is wanting to put new live gear in. It has a 12' ceiling. the stage is the 50' wide and the people sit 80' deep. He has power amps and a board but wants the best sound he can get speaker-wise. I thought off the top that a nice pair of mains and a sub in the middle would be great. The budget is 2,000. What do you think, and give details that will help us buy the right stuff.

Talk to me here - what amps do you have? We have to take into account their wattage and min. load specs here. Also - what type of music? What SPL's can / do you want? Acoustics? Is it sheetrock? Brick? Any absorbent materials - carpet, padded chairs, etc? "Stephanie - need MORE 'input'!" - Johnny 5.

You gonna hang the speakers or stack 'em? :D I have had a pair of the low-end JBL 2x15 & horn - they were real cool, and you could get 4 of them for less than $2000. Hanging, I'd check the Mackie cs300 (12" woof & horn) or cs500 (15" & horn) - I have used the 300s, & they're great - about $350 each, I think, and they get pretty loud. Plus, they come with integral fly points (except that I think they are a metric size, couldn't find an exact fit??? But, the nearest fraction-of-on-inch hardware worked fine, and the box weighs about 45 lbs; hanging from 3 points has held for a year now) Add a sub & crossover (Mackie also makes a powered sub with crossover built in) & you'd be rocking!

Oops! I'm over budget, but if you had these you'd be kickin', check it out; JBL SR4735 - $3400 Retail JBL SR4718X - $1000 Retail Maybe you can bargain the price down and, raise a little extra cash. :) If not, check out the JBL MP series, it's about half the price. Sly
