BigRedCat
Hey guys, I am planning on getting an in-ear system(probably a Shure) and I need a mixer. Nothing too excessive- just enough to mix for a 3-4 piece(guitar+vocals,bass,drums)-sometimes I add an additional drummer. Any ideas? It is mainly for practice and small clubs so I dont want to spend a fortune(not that I have a fortune to spend anyway ) :) "If the milk turns out to be sour, I ain't the kinda pussy to drink it." -Rory Breaker
fantasticsound
How many mixes? Mono or stereo? Will this mixer provide the main mix as well? Most inexpensive, compact mixers only provide 2 prefader mixes and 2 post-fader mixes per channel. Mackie and their imitators almost always use a flip switch to provide two more aux's, but aux 3-4 and aux 5-6 cannot be used together on the same channel. If the main mix will remain static, then you can provide 4 - mono mixes. If someone will adjust levels on the mains during practice, any fader changes will affect two of the mixes. (post-fader) That said, if you can justify the nearly $1000 on an Allen & Heath MixWizard, it can provide 4 prefader aux's (2 prefader, 2 switchable) as well as postfader aux's 5 and 6 with their own level controls. It also includes an onboard f/x processor. A simple (but expensive!) way to add pre-fader mixes is with Shure's Auxpander box. It's a 4 stereo output by 8 channel input matrix mixer. Using insert cables on up to 8 channels or subs of your main mixer, you can provide 4 stereo or 8 mono (using the pan controls to divide output level between 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, & 7-8) mixes. I believe retail is approx. $900, however! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
BigRedCat
I will be running 3-4 stereo mixes- most likely from the Shure PSM400 or 600 system. I have considered the Shure P4M mixers as well. Any experience with these? "If the milk turns out to be sour, I ain't the kinda pussy to drink it." -Rory Breaker
