Project Alpha
Hello, How are things? Project Alpha ( actually that's me) has started to bring out work. The first reviews were encouraging but the project is looking for more feedback. Hence I post this message here as well to ask you all to take a moment and go listen and give your opinion/feedback. My question is also in what style this music should be fitted, is it modern day jazz, fusion, funk, lounge, new age or what? I play all instruments one can hear, record and produce all things myself, no samples used in the music. Accept maybe a drum machine which I programmed myself, played the pattern in live so to speak. I'm a bassplayer originally and not a real solo player on keyboard for excample and I find there is room for that still in my work. Trombone maybe in the first piece. I think I still have to learn much so any help is welcome. If you are interested please go and listen at: http://www.radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/1054/music.php I put three pieces there. The top one called Soaring Eagle I just finished recently. Thanks in advance and with kind regards, Project Alpha. It don't mean a thing if the bass isn't in! http://radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/1054/
Project Alpha
Hey, Are there really no opinions here regarding my music? With kind regards, P-Alpha. Dr Nursers
Well, it is considered polite to mix in a forum a little before just turning up and linking to your music. Some people can perceive that as spamming The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
Project Alpha
Hey David, I guess you're right and I'm sorry for that impression. Okay, let me introduce myself if I may. I'm a bassplayer from The Netherlands. I play for quite some time now and I have done my share on stage and still hope to be able to do that for quite some time. Over the years music has become increasingly important to me and just recently I've started to make music on my own. Hence perhaps my eagerness to find out if it is something to persist in and opinions of others about it. I do hope to contribute in a positive way to this forum.Spamming is not my intention. Project Alpha
Hey, First of all a good musical year wished to all of you crazy musicians out there :-) My year starts well allthough I'm amazed as to how this happened, not complainign though. My tracks seem to do very well, above my expectations surely. They are now at place 4 and going towards 14.000 streams and downloads. http://www.radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/1054/music.php And the're not even finished and lacking a theme or solo here and there. Still it's happening allright. P-Alpha. It don't mean a thing if the bass isn't in! http://radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/1054/
Eric VB
Nice to hear of your success, P-Alpha! Would you say internet-play (as opposed to traditional radio air-play) is the way of the future? Do internet streams and downloads translate into a commercial success? (Do you see royalty payments for each stream and/or download? Or, has this activity providing business opportunities for you that you wouldn't have had otherwise?) I checked out your link and "Soaring Eagle" while I was there. Nice little instrumental piece. Do you think it will be harder to defend your copyright as a composer because it lacks a distinct melody or lyrics? What was your inspiration for "Soaring Eagle"? (Not far from here, that is the name of a casino, BTW.) Are there eagles in the Netherlands? (Forgive my ignorance; I've never been to my ancestor's homeland.) I noticed you said you are a bass player. Did you start "Soaring Eagle" with the bass line, and then go from there? Do you ever start with a melody, or a chord progression, or a set of lyrics? Project Alpha
Hey Ricbassguy, How goes it? I quoted your mail and answer between your words with # Nice to hear of your success, P-Alpha! # Thanks man :-) # Would you say internet-play (as opposed to traditional radio air-play) is the way of the future? # I guess so, allthough radio will be around for quite some time. I also think that selling per track ( on line) will eventually push out cd's. But also this will not happen very soon I think.# Do internet streams and downloads translate into a commercial success? # No not yet for me.# (Do you see royalty payments for each stream and/or download? # No not yet for me. As up to now I don't charge for streams. I first want to have a dozen or so tracks. But most of all I am/was looking for feedback to see how people think about my music.# Or, has this activity providing business opportunities for you that you wouldn't have had otherwise?) # No not yet.# I checked out your link and "Soaring Eagle" while I was there. Nice little instrumental piece. Do you think it will be harder to defend your copyright as a composer because it lacks a distinct melody or lyrics? # No not harder than usual, whether or not there's a distinctive feature on the track doesn't have much influence on that I think. When altered a little someone else can call it their own, also with known tunes. Allthough my tracks are have copyright and are protected it can't stop distribution. I don't mind actually. When this will be the case it will mean my music is wellcomed :-) # What was your inspiration for "Soaring Eagle"? # At each track there is a button saying : View song information. There's the answer you seek. At : http://www.radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/1054/ there's some info about me. # (Not far from here, that is the name of a casino, BTW.) # And do you feel lucky occassionally.....and more important.....are you?? lol # Are there eagles in the Netherlands? # Not like the bold eagle but there are large buzzards(?) around a lot where I live. Magnificent birds, floating free and majestic.# (Forgive my ignorance; I've never been to my ancestor's homeland.) # Nah, no problem mate.# I noticed you said you are a bass player. Did you start "Soaring Eagle" with the bass line, and then go from there? # In this case yes.# Do you ever start with a melody, or a chord progression, or a set of lyrics? # You have to remember I'm only starting out and have made these three tracks so far. More's coming I hope. Usually I hear a tune in my mind when something happens or something catches my eye or I'm driving in my car. Or rehearsing at home or something. It can be anything really. A particular drum pattern, a bass line, a theme or an image, anything. Are you a musician too?# Kind regards, P-Alpha. Eric VB
P-Alpha, thanks for replying to my many questions! As for your questions, I'm married but my wife often does better at the casino than me. Yes, I'm a musician, too; an electric bassist that has taken up songwriting. Everybody in this forum, for that matter, is a songwriting or composing musician. (Also on this site are other forums. For example, the Lowdown is for bass players.) There are so many issues for songwriters and composers to deal with, from the creative to the business to everything in between. It's nice to be able to address these issues here among our fellow musicians. In addition to your continued success, I hope you find the time to join in the discussions here, or even start your own. I think you'll find we're a pretty friendly bunch.
Kay Slagman
First off, great stuff Alpha! It's funny, I just registered on this international forum, because it widens my view a bit and the first thread I click on is started by a fellow Dutchman I really like your style. I'm a drummer myself and I recently started to take my composing urges more seriously. I bought some new equipment and my songs are starting to sound better and better. Nothing really finished yet, but that day will come soon. Anyway, I always loved the Bass and really dig your songs. They seem great for me to play along on here btw, so I'll try that later on. Playing along always seems to be the most fun in the end in my opinion. No pressure, just the music and a lot of fun. Keep up with the good stuff man
