Your interpretation of the " footsteps dressed in red" in The Wind Cries Mary.

I've not really thought about the lyrics to that song until now, and I've not put as much into this as you guys-- especially Bill, and Brad for that matter ) but the first verse strikes me as as much about the loss from "growing up" as it does a party, kinda like the Waltz for Debbie lyrics.

 

I don't know if the verses all have to tell the same story or if they can be seperate vignettes all meant to show different examples of the same feeling.

 

My only point is that the jacks going back into their boxes and the clowns going to bed (either sleeping or from being toys to decorations on a bed), and even in the next verse "yesterday's life" could be childhood or loss of childhood references.
