haggard
I'm getting deeply into studying Jimmy Webb's Tunesmith. The best book I've read in a long time. It has answered questions I've asked myself for a long time and confirmed many personal observations. Just cool! Tedster
Count me as a big Jimmy Webb fan. It amazes me how young the guy was when he wrote some of his hits. I know it might be his "cliche" song, but "Wichita Lineman" IMO is one of the best songs ever written...one of my faves. Noodlesbad
I love Jimmy Webb, and he's got some talented kids too; I highly recommend any of the Webb Brothers albums ... they have a sort of moody, weird pop vibe. Kendrix
I read the book- good one. I also love some of his classic tunes. However, i also bought his most recent disc and found very little on it of interest. Some tunes were downright awful IMHO. How can someone go from cranking out incredible classic tunes to a bunch of stuff that just doesnt make the grade at all? Interesting how the creative gods come and go. robmix
I'm with Kendrix I respect Jimmy's accomplishments and his past work. But his current work is just not happenning. His book is one of the most frustrating reads I've ever had. His rules about songwriting are a guaranteed formula for turning out run of the mill, cliched, crap. Damn if he didn't he write some great songs though . . . . . . Just my $.02 Rob Hoffman http://www.robmixmusic.com Los Angeles, CA
