sudeep
hey guys can i ask a quick question. When sending your demos out to publishers (with the view to having songs pitched to artists), would you include suggested artists that you think your songs would be suitable for (in your cover letter). Or is that being really presumptious, cos thats their JOB!
cherri
I am by no means an expert, but last I knew, publishers didn't take unsolicited material. There are books out there about marketing your songs, I would research some of that information. You might find your answer in there. www.metalblues.com
Johnny Tucats
Yeah, call before submitting and get a name. Email can work, too. Who to call? Call the publishers that are on the records that YOU want to be on. There's a book, "Songwriter's Market", with a lot of contact info that you could use for cross reference. The ASCAP and BMI web sites have general publisher info, also. Usually a lag of a few months for new songs.
songrytr
Pick up "Networking In The Music Business" by Dan Kimpel (available at Amazon, etc.). The ultimate book of schmooze (which is what needs to happen before you even think of submitting material). this house is empty now...
