basspatient
Hell all, just want to see who has heard this band called 'The Hives', they are lumped into the catagory with 'The Strokes (overrated) and 'The White Stripes'. I have heard 2 songs from them, and think they are pretty rockin', just curious as to how many others have heard them and what they think of them. G. Ratte
Oh, hell YEAH!! Just checked 'em out, thanks to a couple suggestions on here. They sound like people romanticize The Stooges sounded like...or at least, they sound like The Stooges and The Kinks best songs, consistently. The UK music press is completely clueless-The Hives piss all over the goddamn sissyboy Strokes. Thanks for the headsup, much appreciated! G. Duhduh
They pretty good. They're no White Stripes, though. They're on Nitro Records, the label that a good friend of mine just got signed to. Nitro is a punk rock label out of Huntington Beach owned by the singer of the Offspring. "Meat is the only thing you need beside beer! Big hunks of meat and BEER!!...Lots of freakin' BEER." "Hey, I'm not Jesus Christ, I can't turn water into wine. The best I can do is turn beer into urine." Mats Olsson.
The Hives - yet another Swedish act! The Hives come from the tiny town of Fagersta, situated in the middle of nowhere - a place that used to prosper until the steel factory closed some 10 years ago. The town used to have a very good festival, but the folks behind it moved to another town and started a record label(Burning Heart) that got very successful with bands like Millencolin, Division of Laura Lee, No fun at all, 59 times the pain, Bombshell Rocks, Breach, Liberator, Puffball and several others. The Hives is Burning Hearts' latest act to come through on a larger scale. A great act with lots of attitide, songs, and plenty of talent to back it up. Their lead singer, Howlin' Pelle, is a fantastic stage personality - like the rest of the band. The Hives are in it for real. (Unlike some "wannabe acts" like the Strokes). Glad to hear that people elsewhere also like them! /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later! basspatient
Sorry about that - 'Hell all' in my first post..that was supposed to be 'HellO all'...ha. Cool yeah I think they are pretty cool, WAY better than the Strokes. I like the emotion and the rawness of their music. The White Stripes are awesome as well..man so powerful for just 2 people, and I love his guitar tone...ruff, rugged and raw. G. Ratte
I'd also like to suggest Speedealer, 'bout to blow up. Jason Newsted is producing their latest thing, and they're signed to Palm. Touring with Fu Manchu. They're from my hometown of Lubbock, Texas-playing rip-yer-head-off bluesy garage rock. I recorded their first demo on my 4-track in their storage unit practice space. The bass player was staring at the Playboy shots of Dana Plato while tracking for "inspiration." I'm really proud of these guys, they're awesome. G. Rog
The Strokes & the White Stripes are great .. the Hives are so-so. I even managed to form that opinion without reading the music press! jflush
Another video that looks like a GAP commercial? I saw the Hives video last night...I found the song brutally repetitive...Singer repeated the song title( I think it was the title) about a million times...Ouch!
