Dan South
Is there a name for they type of music that they play at the gym? It all has the same robotic beat (four on the floor kick, light snare or side stick on all four upbeats). I never hear ANY of these recordings anywhere else. Are there publishers/record companies that serve the gym market exclusively? The Black Knight always triumphs!
Mark V
A friend of mine used to "re-do" material for a couple of aerobics instructors who liked medelys of stuff at the same tempo. I once had a quasi-religious experience..then I realised I'd turned up the volume.
GY
A few years ago, I received an offer to sell my URL . Seems some company that sells GYM floor routine music wanted it. I said no. They got gymusic.org instead. I get emails all the time from their customers thinking I am them. It's kind of like having your phone number one digit away from the local pizza parlor. If you write an original piece for an Olympic hopeful's routine, it can be very rewarding. I don't think that supplying beats for the local exercise chain would be very profitable. GY

Hope this helps.

Tom Capasso
Originally posted by music-man: ...VideoGameMusic...
Have to wonder about this one, m-m. My son has tons of videogame music, and some of the characteristics include odd chord structures and light melodies. But they aren't all the same (even if it's not what you want to be listening to). He uses it like a music study guide - he is constantly playing solos over this stuff - sometimes in harmony, sometimes independent of the melody. The unusual chord structure challenges him more than a I - IV - V. And he does it on french horn or keys or (recently) acoustic guitar. Hey Dan - I guess those DJ mixes that take 60's music and mix it together at one tempo (regardless of the original tempo) should go on the list as well - I HATE that !! You're a saint, Tom.
Stephen Fortner
What timing. I was at my gym today, and the sound system was playing just such a four-on-the-floor dance mix... including "Louie Louie", "Heard it Through the Grapevine", "Satisfaction", and "Mustang Sally." Is this meant to help wieght loss by inducing vomiting? On the positive side, they often play the Rhino Records "In Yo Face" compilation CD's of Motown and Funk, which you'd have to be a deaf Al Quaeda mullah not to love. If I can make it from James Brown to Parliament on the treadmill, I know I've burned off the ham and cheese croissant I had for breakfast.
